    • A retail item display includes an RFID processor, a display driving mechanism, at least one power source, and an electronic display. The RFID processor can include an antenna and an RFID processor. The display driving mechanism can include a microcontroller and a display driver or similar device. The electronic display comprises a display medium sandwiched between two electrodes. The RFID device is in communication with the display driving mechanism to display updated product information on the electronic display according to instructions from an external RFID activator. In one embodiment, the retail item display includes an electronic display that can be activated or deactivated. In another embodiment, the retail item display includes at least one customizable portion and at least one non-customizable portion. Methods to reduce the number of electrical connections between the display driving mechanism and the electronic display are also disclosed.

    • An ink-receptive coating composition. In a preferred embodiment, the composition includes (a) a polyamide, the polyamide comprising an aliphatic polyamide in particulate form, the aliphatic polyamide having a softening point in the temperature range of about 50-250° C. and an average particle size of about 1 to 80 microns; (b) a plasticizer, the plasticizer being a solid plasticizer selected from the group consisting of alkyl sulfonamides and aromatic sulfonamides, the solid plasticizer having a melting point in the range of about 50-200° C.; (c) a binder, the binder being a thermoplastic polymer delivered as a water-based emulsion or solution, the binder having a Tg in the range of about −20-120° C.; (d) a dye-retention agent, the dye-retention agent comprising at least one cationic polymer; (e) an ink viscosity-modifying agent; and (f) a dispersant, the dispersant being selected from the group of cationic and non-ionic dispersants. The composition may be used to form, for example, an ink-receptive coating as part of an ink-jet recording sheet or a heat-transfer sheet.

    • An image transfer medium for transferring a printed image to a substrate. In a preferred embodiment, the image transfer medium is particularly well-suited for use in transferring an ink-jet printed image to a white substrate, such as a white T-shirt, and comprises an image receiving laminate and an image protecting laminate. The image receiving laminate preferably comprises a base, a release coating coated directly on a surface of the base, a thermoplastic layer coated directly on the release coating, and an ink-receptive layer coated directly on the thermoplastic layer. The image protecting laminate preferably comprises a base, a release coating coated directly on a surface of the base, and a thermoplastic layer coated directly on the release coating. In one possible use, an image is reverse-printed on the ink-receptive layer. The thermoplastic layer of the image protecting laminate is heat-bonded to the substrate, and its release liner is peeled away. The image is then placed on top of the bonded thermoplastic layer, and heat and pressure are applied to the release liner of the image receiving laminate until the ink-receptive layer and the image bond to the bonded thermoplastic layer. The remaining release liner is then peeled away.
