    • A retrievable large bore packer for providing an annular seal and an anchor system in a well bore. Ports are provided behind the slips to prevent debris build-up and allow the slips to release. These ports, in a thin walled tubing, allow the collapse of the tubing behind the slips to aid removal of the packer if the sealing element does not release. The slip arrangement is mounted entirely above the sealing element to remove the requirement to seal between the slips and the inner bore of the packer. In this way the packer can have a large bore. Further flow paths are provided through the packer above the seal to prevent debris build-up above the sealing element.

    • A lock member (10) is disclosed for securing to a lock structure (14) in a conduit. The lock member (10) comprises a housing (24), a shoulder (16) on the lock structure (10), a locking device (26) movably mounted on the housing (24) for movement between a first retracted position and a second extended position in which the locking device (26) enters a corresponding locking recess (30) in the lock structure (14). The shoulder (16) of the lock member (10) is movably mounted on the housing (24) between a first position in which, in use, the shoulder (16) bears upon the shoulder (18) of the locking structure (14) and the locking device (26) when in the extended position is disengaged from the surfaces of the locking recess (30) of the lock structure (14). When the shoulder (16) of the lock member (10) is in the second axial position, the locking device (26) bears upon a surface of the locking recess (30) so as to bear at least a portion of any load applied to an end of the lock member (10). The lock member (10) also includes a selective locking device (32) for selectively locking the shoulder (16) in the first position. The lock member is particularly advantageous when used in an oil or gas well and especially tubing in oil or gas wells. In this case, the lock member is in the form of a lock mandrel and the lock structure is in the form of a landing nipple.

    • A well tubing valve is described, having a substantially tubular body connected in a tubular string and a rotational valve member having at least one aperture. The valve member, which may be a sleeve having a part spherical surface, is rotationally moveable relative to the body to align and misalign the aperture in the valve member with a port in the body. The valve member is actuable to rotate relative to the body in a single direction, and moves from the open position to a closed position and back by rotation in the same sense. In an alternative embodiment, two such valves members are provided and each valve member is actuable from a common control line to at least three operating positions, to. incrementally adjust flow through the ports. Methods of operation are also described.

    • A support assembly for a deformable sealing element of a downhole tool such as a packer, bridge plug or straddle. The support assembly has first and second support devices at each end of the sealing element with each device having an elastically deformable support member adapted to be located between the respective end of the sealing element and an actuating member of the downhole tool. Additionally, a guide member with an inclined guide surface is provided such that the support member travels along the inclined surface when a force is exerted by the actuating member to expand the sealing element radially into abutment with a surface downhole. The support member moves radially outwards to support the respective end of the sealing element during deformation.
