[Class 74 (ii)] A circular knitting-machine for producing the fabric shown in Fig. 5 is provided with a stationary needle-cylinder 1 carrying two sets of sliding bearded needles arranged alternately. A main fabric, shown in thin lines is produced from yarn drawn off bobbins 21 by the rotary movement of a ring 3 carrying, say, 20 sets of cams 4. At the same time a secondary design fabric is built up over the main fabric from two sets of yarns B, C. One set of design yarns is drawn from upper bobbins 31 mounted on a rotary cylinder 30, which also supports a perforated ring 34 for guiding the yarns B. The other set is drawn from lower bobbins 37 mounted on brackets 36 carried by a gear ring 35. The brackets support a perforated ring 38 for the yarns C. This ring revolves in the same direction as the cam ring 3 and is perforated with guide holes 50 for the yarns C equal in number to the needles plus the number of cam sets 4. The other guide ring 34, which revolves in the opposite direction to the cam ring, has guide holes 49 equal in number to the needles minus the number of cam sets 4. The guide rings 34, 38 are stepped round by ratchet and pawl mechanism. Several rings, or one only, may be used for guiding the design yarns. Various diagonal designs are obtainable.

    • A character pattern generating apparatus includes a memory and a CPU. The memory stores, in advance, character skeleton data representing the skeleton shapes of characters and element outline data representing the outline shapes of the elements constituting the characters for each character style. The CPU obtains outline shape data corresponding to one constituent element in character skeleton data from the element outline data, extracts therefrom element skeleton data for the constituent element, transforms the extracted element skeleton data based on the character skeleton data, and modifies the outline shape data in accordance with the transformation so as to generate a character pattern by using the modified outline data. The character pattern generating apparatus of the present invention generates multiple kinds of high quality fonts involving no design restrictions in a smaller number of steps.

    • A cooling agent which cools by an endothermic reaction resulting from the dissolving of crystals of inorganic salts water, the salts crystallizing at about room temperature by supplying heat. The cooling agent comprises a mixture of (i) a sodium phosphate salt, (ii) a sodium ammonium phosphate salt or an ammonium phosphate salt, and (iii) water. The cooling agent is produced in a manner which avoids the conglomeration of the crystals, which was a difficulty in the art. Moreover, the cooling agent of the present invention can be used repeatedly. When a nucleating agent, a highly water absorbent polymer or a thickener is added to the cooling agent, the precipitation of the crystals occurs in a still finer and stabler state. The cooling agent can be used in a cooling pillow having a desirable cooling property and a soft and agreeable touch, which offers comfort with safety and which is free from conglomeration of crystals, even after a long period of time.
