摘要： Additional information is generated for each of unit recording blocks in a recording medium. The generated additional information is recorded on a first area in the corresponding unit recording block. A piece of file data is recorded on a second area in each of the unit recording blocks. The second area differs from the first area. The additional information for each of the unit recording blocks includes 1) file identification information for identifying the file data, 2) next-sector address information indicating an address of a unit recording block following the present unit recording block, and 3) first-sector identification information indicating whether or not the present unit recording block is first one of the unit recording blocks assigned to the file data. The additional information may further include effective-data identification information indicating whether a piece of the file data recorded on the present unit recording block is effective or ineffective.

摘要： Digital image data is divided, per frame, into “N” fields. “N/m” combinations of imperceptible codes are produced, each combination having “m” codes given by an inverse of a function giving an identification code with the “m” codes as variables. “N” and “m” are an integer of 2 or more and “m” is given by dividing “N” by an integer. The combinations are embedded into the data to embed the “m” codes of each combination into the data in “m” fields according to a rule of positional correspondence to give correlation among “m” fields in “N” fields. The data is divided into “N” fields and the codes are extracted therefrom and combined into the combinations according to the rule. An operation is conducted based on the function. It is determined that the data has not been tampered with only when the operation gives the identification code for each combination.

摘要： Address information is recorded on an optical recording medium having groove portions and land portions. The groove portions form a recording track and are spaced at a constant track pitch. The land portions extend between the groove portions. The address information represents the positions of places on the optical recording medium. The recording of the address information is implemented as follows. The address information is converted into words of a self-synchronizable code. The words of the self-synchronizable code are subjected to bi-phase modulation to generate a bi-phase-modulation-result signal. The bi-phase modulation causes frequency modulation. Thus, the bi-phase-modulation-result signal is a frequency-modulation-result signal. The frequency-modulation-result signal is recorded on at least one sides of the groove portions to form wobble of the recording track.

摘要： A method employed in an encoding apparatus allocates bits for each of the pictures and blocks of a video signal based on quantization-dependent and quantization-independent signal thereof. First, the quantization-dependent signal is quantized based on a fixed quantization parameter; and the quantized data and the quantization-independent signal are statistically coded to thereby provided first data and second data. A target amount of encoded bits for each picture and block is then determined based on a target bit rate and the respective amounts of the first and the second data. The amounts of encoded data for the pictures and the blocks are adaptively controlled according to the target amounts of encoded bits by adjustably altering quantization parameters based on the difference between the target amount of the encoded bits and the amount of the encoded data generated.
