    • The present invention is to provide a wireless LAN system which achieves a relatively effective use of communication band, while suppressing occurrence of hidden terminal problems. When wireless terminal A and wireless terminal B respectively transmit signals (T123, T133), and Access Point (AP) in the wireless LAN system recognizes occurrence of contention, if AP successfully recognizes an address of sending source of this signal and a duration of this signal as a result of analyzing any signal from the wireless terminal A, AP transmits a CTS signal which gives a clearance for transmission to the wireless terminal A which is the source of sending the signal (T113). The wireless terminal A which is given the clearance for transmission by the CTS signal, resends a signal identical to the one previously sent (T127), whereas the wireless terminal B which is not given the clearance for transmission by the CTS signal withholds a signal transmission during the duration indicated by the CTS signal.

    • A hydraulic valve lift device for transmitting the motion of a cam to a push rod of an intake or exhaust valve of an engine, including a housing, a lifter slidably engaged by the housing and provided therein with an oil pressure chamber adapted to receive an oil, and a plunger provided with a flange portion and slidable in relation to the lifter. The flange portion of the plunger and cylindrical bore of the housing cooperate with each other to define therebetween a braking chamber into which oil is introduced. The device has a slit through which the oil in the braking chamber is relieved to the outside. The arrangement is such that the rate of oil relieved through the braking chamber is reduced as the plunger is lowered. The device further includes a relief valve for maintaining the pressure in the braking chamber below a predetermined pressure level.

    • A wireless LAN communications system with high transmission efficiency is provided. When a first wireless terminal normally receives a Data1 signal from an access point, the wireless terminal transmits an ACK signal. In the case where the wireless terminal has transmission data, the client transmits a Data2 signal to the access point after an SIFS interval. Meanwhile, when the access point or a second wireless terminal receives the ACK signal from the first wireless terminal, the second client waits a (DIFS+random number) interval, in accordance with the IEEE 802.11 standard. As a result, the first wireless terminal is able to transmit the Data2 signal with priority, without interference from signals from other devices.

    • A picture coded signal decoding apparatus for decoding a plurality of picture coded signals into one picture signal. The apparatus includes a code string editing unit which edits the picture coded signals to generate one picture coded signal, and a decoder which decodes the one picture coded signal to generate one picture signal. The code string editing unit generates the one picture signal representing a composite picture including pictures corresponding to said picture coded signals. Each picture coded signal includes at least one coded sub-picture representing a sub-picture having a predetermined number of scanning lines. Each coded sub-picture includes a positional code for indicating a sequential position of the sub-picture in the picture coded signal.
