    • A compact adapter for interconnecting a digital computer peripheral device that uses a Single Connector Attachment (“SCA”) to a conventional Small Computer System Interface (“SCSI”) bus. A SCA connector of the adapter mates with and engages a complementary SCA connector included in a peripheral device. The SCA connector is juxtaposed perpendicularly with a first face of a planar printed circuit board. A narrow width for the printed circuit board permits a disk drive mated with the adapter to fit within a space in a digital computer system adapted to receive a peripheral device. The compact adapter also includes an electrical power connector together with a first, conventional SCSI bus connector. Preferably, the adapter also includes a second, conventional SCSI bus connector having a different style from that of the first SCSI bus connector. The power connector and both SCSI bus connectors are juxtaposed with and disposed perpendicular to a second face of the printed circuit board, and electrically coupled to the SCA connector by traces on the printed circuit board.

    • A data-duplicating system for copying digital data between information storage device that occupies a mounting space sized to receive a standard, 51/4 inch, half-height Winchester hard disk drive. The data duplicating system includes different types of information-storage-device connectors adapted for coupling to the data-duplicating system information storage devices that conform to various disparate, incompatible interface specifications. The electronic circuit also includes a digital logic circuit for reading digital data from a first information storage device and writing the read digital data to one or more other information storage devices. A high-speed serial-port permits coupling together a pair of data-duplicating systems. A plurality of switches and a liquid crystal display ("LCD") permit an operator to control the data-duplicating system.

    • A host adapter, having at least two connectors which both belong to a single digital computer bus, includes a first terminator that is coupled to a first portion of the digital computer bus, and a second terminator that is coupled to a second, separate portion of the bus. Upon being enabled by a control signal, these terminators respectively terminate the first and second portions of the bus. The host adapter also includes termination control logic coupled to the first and second terminators, and to connectors for the bus. The termination control logic receives connection signals from the connectors which indicate connection or non-connection of a device to the first portion, or to the combined first and second portions of the bus. The termination control logic processes these connection sensing signals and transmits two independent control signals which appropriately enable or disable the first and second terminators. The host adapter may also include a third connector that also belongs to the bus, and from which the termination control logic also receives connection sensing signals. In addition to providing control signals for the terminators, the termination control logic also detects and indicates if devices are improperly connected to the bus.

    • An appliance's control and sensing circuit selectively applies AC electrical power to a load (72). The circuit includes a relay (44) having contacts (52) connected in series between an AC power source and the load (72). When energized, the relay's electromagnetic coil (54) changes the contacts (52) to supplying electrical power to the load (72) or conversely. The control and sensing circuit measures AC voltage induced in the coil (54) by an alternating magnetic field produced by AC electrical current supplied to the load (72) through the relay's contacts (52). A microcontroller (46) included in the control and sensing circuit: 1. measures the AC voltage produced by the coil (54); 2. compensates the measured voltage for inductive coupling between the AC current flowing through the contacts (52) and the coil (54); and 3. determines various characteristics of the AC power supplied to the load (72).

    • A multiple-media duplicating system concurrently copies digital data from a master media to several copy media. The system includes a master input/output (“I/O”) port and several copy I/O ports equal in number to the number of copy media. A special I/O port, coupled in parallel to each of the copy I/O ports, effects a concurrent transfer of digital data from the master media to all of the copy media. The system may further include a circuit which effects copying of data from the master media to the copy media while concurrently preventing conventional direct access to devices that contain the media. A particularly preferred embodiment further includes an adjustable, variable-frequency generator that is coupled to the digital logic circuit, and supplies a clock signal to the digital logic circuit which determines a rate at which digital data is copied from the master media in parallel to the copy media.
