    • A system for maintaining calender rolls of a paper machine clean when producing high-gloss paper or coated paper, such as LWC or MWC. To prevent a coating agent, such as coating dye, from adhering onto and soiling a smooth surface of a calender roll, with an overheating phenomenon, the system has a second measurement station (10) provided with measuring and indicator means for producing an output indicating soiledness of the web (W) or a humidity profile. When the output of the second measurement station (10) indicates excessive soiledness or an uneven humidity profile, the system performs at least one of: cleaning the surface of the smooth-surfaced calender roll; changing the nip load in the calender (5); making a correction adjustment of the CD-directional humidity profile of the web (W); cutting the web (W) and conducting it into the pulper; and/or changing the running speed of the web (W).

    • A multi-roll calender (1) has one or several sets of rolls (2) attached to a frame (7) so that each set of rolls has at least three rolls. At least the first roll (3; 31) and the last roll (3; 32) have casings which can be moved toward the intermediate rolls (4). The first roll (3; 31) and the last roll (3; 32) are fixedly attached, at least one of the intermediate rolls (4) in the set of rolls is fixedly attached, and the other intermediate rolls are provided with lightening elements for lightening the auxiliary means related to the intermediate rolls. The roll nips (N) in the set of rolls (2) are closed by moving the first roll towards the intermediate rolls (4), and the roll nips between the last roll and the fixed intermediate roll included, are closed by moving the last roll towards the intermediate rolls (4).

    • A calender includes at least two roll stacks which each have at least three rolls, and in each of which the web path of a fibrous web meanders between each roll pair of the stack. In order to produce a selectable fibrous web grade, the web is passed between each roll pair of each stack, so that at least one roll pair in at least one stack is in nip contact to form a nip that calenders the web. The web runs between each roll pair of each roll stack and, in order to produce a selectable fibrous web grade, a selectable number of rolls is in nip contact with each other in each stack to form at least one nip that calenders the fibrous web.

    • A paper web moistened in a paper machine and reeled on a machine reel is calendered in a multinip calender arranged apart from the paper machine, whose roll assembly is formed of a first set of rolls and a second set of rolls in the travel direction of the paper web. At least one surface of the paper web is moistened with at least one pre-moisturizer, whereafter the paper web is guided to the first calender nip of the first set of rolls and one surface of the paper web is moistened with at least one intermediate moisturizer, whereafter the paper web is guided to the first calender nip of the second set of rolls, wherein a paper web having a roughness of 1.0-1.1 μm and/or gloss of 54-57% or 56-60% is produced as a result of calendering.
