    • Silver iodobromide tabular grain emulsions of enhanced photographic sensitivity are disclosed. The silver iodobromide grains contain from 2 to less than 10 mole percent iodide, exhibit a coefficient of variation of less than 20 percent, and consisting essentially of tabular grains having opposed parallel major faces. Each of the tabular silver bromoiodide grains exhibit an iodide concentration in excess of 6 mole percent within a surface region extending to a depth of less than 0.02 .mu.m and exhibit a central iodide concentration of less than 2 mole percent.The tabular grain emulsion is prepared by providing within a reaction vessel a population of silver bromide or iodobromide host grains exhibiting a coefficient of variation of less than 20 percent and containing less than 2 mole percent iodide consisting essentially of tabular grains and introducing silver, bromide and iodide ions into the reaction vessel for deposition onto the major faces on the host tabular grains, with iodide ions accounting for at least 25 mole percent of total halide ions introduced.

    • A color photographic element has a blue sensitive tabular grain silver halide emulsion layer the halide content of which is less than 80% chloride and which has a tabularity of at least 8. The foregoing emulsion is sensitized such that the wavelength of maximum sensitivity of the emulsion between 400-500 nm (".lambda..sub.Bmax "), the sensitivity at 485 nm ("S.sub.485 "), the sensitivity at 410 nm ("S.sub.410 "), and the sensitivity at .lambda..sub.Bmax (".lambda..sub.Bmax "), are defined by:430 nm.gtoreq..lambda..sub.Bmax .gtoreq.440 nm or 450 nm.gtoreq..lambda..sub.Bmax .gtoreq.480 nmandS.sub.485 .gtoreq.50% (S.sub.Bmax)S.sub.410 .gtoreq.60% (S.sub.Bmax)and the maximum sensitivity of the emulsion between 430-440 nm ("S.sub.(430-440)max "), and the maximum sensitivity between 450-480 nm ("S.sub.(450-480)max "), have the following relationship:90% (S.sub.(450-480)max).gtoreq.S.sub.(430-440)max .gtoreq.110%(S.sub.(450-480)max).The above element is particularly useful in a process of printing a color negative on an automatic printer which compensates for color saturation of a subject negative relative to a standard negative.
