    • A power distribution controller includes electronic circuitry operable to receive power and distribute power, for simultaneous consumption, to a first power load and to one or more second power loads. The electronic circuitry is also operable to monitor the amount of power consumed by the one or more second power loads, and determine whether or not the received power is or substantially is the maximum amount of power available to be received. In response to the amount of power consumed by the one or more second power loads, and the amount of received power relative to the maximum amount of power available to be received, the electronic circuitry diverts power to the first power load to cause the received power to be or substantially be the maximum amount of power available to be received.

    • A valve (30) for reducing fluid pressure in a fluid distribution network uses the energy released from the fluid to generate power. The valve (30) includes a housing (34), a turbine (38) disposed within the housing (34), a fluid reservoir (40), and a flow control device (36) operable to generate a turbine inlet flow (42) having a flow velocity from an inlet flow having a fluid pressure. The turbine (38) receives the turbine inlet flow, which rotates the turbine to generate power. The fluid reservoir (40) collects the flow of fluid discharged from the turbine and generates a valve discharge flow (33) having a desired fluid pressure that is less than the fluid pressure of the inlet fluid (42). Thus, the energy from the inlet flow (42) is used to generate power. Furthermore, the power generated by the turbine can be independent of the fluid pressure of the valve discharge flow. Consequently, the valve can provide a consistent reduction in fluid pressure and/or flow rate in a distribution network while the turbine generates power.
