    • In a pneumatic tire for a front wheel, turning performance on a wet road surface is improved compared with a conventional tire.In a pneumatic tire for a front wheel 10, a tread shoulder region 28S extends from a tread edge 20E toward a tire equatorial plane across a width of 20% of a developed width of a tread 28, and a land portion 56 defined by lateral portions 50 is disposed at the tread shoulder region 28S. Regarding the land portion 56, a wall surface 56K of the land portion at a trailing side is parallel to the tire radial direction; a wall surface 56H of the land portion at a leading side inclines from a groove bottom toward a groove opening, and an angle thereof relative to the tire radial direction is 35 degrees. It is effective especially for circumferential leaning deformation of the land portion 56 when braking force acts thereon, whereby lifting of an edge of the land portion at the leading side arisen from the tilting deformation can be suppressed. This makes it possible to secure a contact area with a road surface and in combination with drainage effect through the lateral groove 50, to improve turning performance on a wet road more compared with that of a conventional tire. In addition, on dry road, turning performance can also be improved.

    • The present invention aims to provide a pneumatic tire for a motorcycle capable of improving turning performance on a wet road surface as compared to that of conventional tires. The pneumatic tire for a motorcycle comprises a tread 28 consisting of a tread central portion having a width of 60% of a tread developed width and tread side portions located outside of the tread central portion in the width direction of the tire and a plurality of wide inclined grooves 42 and narrow inclined grooves 44 inclined at an angle of less than 90 degrees with respect to the circumferential direction of the tire formed in the tread side portion such that the grooves continuously extend over a region of 50% or more of a width of the tread side portion. A groove width of the narrow inclined grooves 44 is set within a range between 0.3 mm and 2.5 mm. A total area of the wide inclined grooves 42 is set to not more than 20% of an area of the tread side portion. Such configuration can satisfy both of drainage performance and block stiffness of the tread contact portion in turning at a high level to obtain a higher grip force in turning on a wet road surface than that of conventional tires.

However, the inclined portion 32 is generally inclined forwardly in the rotational direction from a deepest point D toward an opening end K, so that a support portion 36 formed at a rear end of each land portion 35 in the rotational direction and having a substantially triangular shape strongly resists the leaning, thereby effectively suppressing the leaning of each land portion 35. As a result, grip force during driving is improved, thereby improving driving performance. And at the same time, ground-contact pressure is equalized, thereby suppressing non-uniform wear.

    • A pneumatic tire in which a block formed in a tread surface has, in a ground contacting surface thereof, a closed sipe which is formed so as to not open onto a groove. The sipe has a first opening formed in the ground-contacting surface of the block, a second opening formed at side surfaces of the block, and a hole which communicates the first opening and the second opening. In accordance with this structure, water taken-in into the sipe from the first opening at the ground-contacting surface of the block is discharged to the second opening contacting at the side surface facing to the groove. As a result, water drainability of the sipe is improved without lowering rigidity of the block. Thus, a ground contacting performance of the block improves. The pneumatic tire therefore has improved performance on wet roads and improved performance on snowy and icy roads without the rigidity of blocks decreasing.
