摘要： PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To realize a re-programmable modulation/demodulation system in which changing firmware having an operating code stored therein can be changed or upgraded by remote control or without removing or replacing parts and without requiring time of an engineer and a special tool. SOLUTION: The updated operating code and parameters can be reprogrammed into the modulation/demodulation system without replacing the hardware of the modulation/demodulation system, which includes a memory chip re-programmable within a circuit in which the operating code and the parameters are stored. Two control programs control re-programming of the updated operating code. One of them is designed for manufacturing or testing purposes and the other allows reprogramming of the updated operating code or parameters from a remote place.

CONSTITUTION: A personal computer 10 executes the software component and a hardware component 20 is provided with a data communication electrode and a telephone set headset and makes communication with any of lots of remote locations through a standard telephone line 30. Any of the remote locations is provided with this equipment having a hardware component 20a and a software component executed by a personal computer 10a. Through the constitution above, multi-function communication is conducted by communication to a standard telephone set 90, to a facsimile equipment 60 and other personal computer 80 via a MODEM 70.

摘要： PURPOSE: To provide a re-programmable MODEM system which can change firmware having stored operating codes through remote control or improve the grade of the firmware without requiring parts removal nor replacement, the time of engineers, nor any special tool. CONSTITUTION: An updated operating code or parameter can be reprogrammed to a modem system without replacing the hardware of a modem. The modem system incorporates a memory chip which is re-programmable in a circuit in which the operating code or parameter is stored. Two control programs control the re-programming of the updated operating code. One of the control programs is designed for manufacture and tests and the other control program enables the reprogramming of the updated operating code or parameter from a remote place.

CONSTITUTION: A personal computer 10 as a constituting part at a house 1800 is connected through an RS232 interface with a PCS MODEM 1803 at a first position. The PCS modem 1803 communicates through a telephone line interface with a second position. Communication is attained between the first position and the second position through a PBX1805 of the second position 1820. A computer 10a is introduced through an RS232 interface to the other PCS MO DEM 1801 at the second position. A first telephone line interface 309 and a second telephone line interface 320 are connected with the PBX1805 of an office by telephone connection. A user at a remote position can attain connection through the PBX of the user with the MODEM 1803 by using the MODEM 1803.

摘要： PURPOSE: To simultaneously perform superimpose transmission by using quadratic intensity modulation(QAM) and forming a first encoding cycle by a digitized voice sample and a second encoding cycle by modem data in the selection cycle of carrier signals. CONSTITUTION: Analog voice is sent to a CODEC 305 and digitized. A digitized voice pattern is voice-compressed and echo-canceled in a voice control circuit 306 and reconstituted to analog signals in the CODEC. They are outputted through a multiplexer 310 to a telephone line connection I/F 309. Also, the analog voice inputted from the I/F 309 is digitized in the CODEC of the circuit 306, voice-compressed and echo-canceled. It is re-converted to the analog signals for a telephone set selected in the circuit 305. A main controller circuit 313 performs data communication by a packet base with a personal computer through the I/F 315 and stores data in a RAM 308. In which time cycle and by which baud a data sample and the digitized voice sample to be sent by the same carrier wave are to be sent is dynamically decided during transmission by using a data packet arranged beforehand.

摘要： PURPOSE: To simultaneously transmit/receive data and voices by transmitting a supervisory packet by switching data transmission into voice superimpose mode when a transmitter/receiver is picked up, and simulating ring/ring-back for a remote telephone. CONSTITUTION: A personal computer 10 controls a system and communicates with respective remote devices through a standard telephone line 30 by using a local device 20 having a hand set, MODEM and digital telephone function. These respective devices are facsimile equipment 60, personal computer 80 connected with a MODEM 70, telephone 90 and personal computer 10a connected with a device 20a having the same function as the device 20. When the hand set is picked up, the device 20 transmits the supervisory packet, the data transmission mode is turned into voice data superimpose mode, and the telephone 90 and device 20 simulate ring/ring-back. Thus, a user knows a call or a response and during data communication, voices can be simultaneously exchanged with the other telephone 90 or the other device.

摘要： A communication apparatus and method includes a modem operable for connection to a telephone line, a voice receiving interface apparatus for use in receiving voice signals from a local user, and a voice conveying interface apparatus for use in conveying voice signals to the local user. Further, processing circuitry, operable under control of a graphical user interface program executable on a personal computer, may be, for example, operable to convert received voice signals from the local user via the voice receiving interface apparatus into outgoing digital voice information, compress the outgoing digital voice information into compressed outgoing digital voice information, and packetize the compressed outgoing digital voice information and provide outgoing packets based thereon. Each of the outgoing packets includes at least one header. The processing circuitry may further be operable to provide the outgoing packets to the telephone line using the modem, and receive incoming packets including compressed incoming digital voice information from the telephone line using the modem. Each of the incoming packets includes at least one header; the at least one header includes information used to route the incoming packets within the communication apparatus. Yet further, the processing circuitry may be operable to decompress compressed incoming digital voice information and convert decompressed incoming digital voice information into voice signals for conveyance to the local user via the voice conveying interface apparatus.

摘要： A proxy server shares a plurality of modems connected to a wide area network among multiple client computers connected to a local area network. Each of the client computers on the local area network is assigned a local address while each of the plurality of modems is assigned a modem port address valid on the wide area network. In one embodiment, a processor controls address substitution allowing multiple client computers to share modems when communicating to host computers in a wide area network. The processor creates a descriptor list to keep track of the connections between the client computer and host computers on the wide area network and uses the descriptor list to determine to which client computer an incoming data packet should be sent. The processor also creates a proxied application list to determine if an outgoing data packet, received from one of the client computers, is one to be proxied through the proxy server.

摘要： Updated operating code and parameters can be reprogrammed into a modem system with no disassembly of the modem hardware. The modem system includes a memory chip in which operating code and parameters are stored. Two control programs control the reprogramming of updated operating code. One of the control programs is designed for manufacturing and testing purposes. The other control program allows remote reprogramming of updated operating code or parameters from a remote location such as a customer site. A user can thus remotely upgrade system firmware with updates, bug fixes, enhancements or other new releases of system operating code by downloading the update over a phone line to a host PC and reprogramming the memory chip of the modem over the serial port from the host PC. The user can also remotely upgrade the modem system firmware by directly programming the memory chip of the modem without the assistance of the host PC. The modem system is portable, obtaining power from a standard 9 volt battery. Therefore, various power saving features are also incorporated into the modem system.
