    • A magneto-electro-optic effect light modulator has a rectangular solid-like semiconductor element made of one member selected from the group of an n-type semiconductor, a p-type semiconductor and an intrinsic semiconductor. The semiconductor element has no pn-junction and has a band-gap corresponding to the energy of infrared light concerned. Also provided are a magnet for applying a magnetic field H to the semiconductor element and electrodes for passing an electric current through the semiconductor element accross the magnetic field. A power source supplies an electric current passing through the semiconductor element in order to modulate the light incident upon the semiconductor element. An entrance polarizer disposed in front of the semiconductor element linearly polarizes the infrared-light transmitting therethrough. An exit polarizer disposed behind the semiconductor element linearly polarizer the infrared-light transmitting therethrough, the exit polarizer has a polarization plane different from the entrance polarizer. The light modulator utilizes the population inversion caused by a cooperation of current J and magnetic field H to modulate the light incident upon the semiconductor element.

    • In an electrode in which electrode activating metal particles are applied onto an electrode core, a highly durable low-hydrogen overvoltage cathode characterized in that part or the whole of said electrode activating metal particles consists of a hydrogen-occluding metal which is capable of electrochemically occluding and releasing hydrogen. A method of producing a highly durable low-hydrogen overvoltage cathode characterized in that an electrode core is immersed in a plating bath in which hydrogen-occluding metal particles capable of electrochemically occluding and releasing hydrogen are dispersed at least as a portion of the electrode activating metal particles, to effect composite plating, so that said electrode activating metal particles are electroplated onto said electrode core together with the plating metal. A method of producing a highly durable low-hydrogen overvoltage cathode characterized in that a layer is applied by the baking method or the melt-coating method onto the electrode core such that part of the electrode activating metal particles is exposed on the surface of the layer, said layer containing hydrogen-occluding metal particles capable of electrochemically occluding and releasing hydrogen as part of the electrode activating metal particles. A method of producing a highly durable low-hydrogen overvoltage cathode characterized in that a sheet is prepared which contains hydrogen-occluding metal particles capable of electrochemically occluding and releasing hydrogen or which contains electrode activating metal particles consisting of said metal particles and another low-hydrogen overvoltage metal particles, in a manner that at least a portion thereof is exposed on at least one surface of the sheet, and the surface of said sheet opposite to the surface where said particles are exposed is adhered onto the electrode core.

    • A device for correcting time axis in a video tape recorder which is capable of reproducing pictures in slow motion. In correcting the time axis by controlling the digitized reproduced image signals which are written onto, or read from, a memory circuit (8), a predicted V signal (41) is produced by a V predicting circuit (34) and is used so that the picture will not move up and down on a monitor screen even when dropout has developed in the vertical synchronizing signals that are necessary for controlling the writing or reading addresses. Even at a time of special reproduction in which interval changes among the V signals, a high quality picture is produced without permitting it to move up and down.
