    • The invention relates to a multi-chamber heat accumulator which is used to store thermal energy and to produce electric energy. Said multi-chamber heat accumulator has a trench-like structure which is introduced into the base, having a lower part, a, in particular, surrounding lateral wall and a cover. The trench-like structure has at least one inner area which is provided with a solid trench-like filling and at least one outer area with a second solid trench-like filling. The outer area at least partially surrounds the inner area. The trench-like filling of the inner area is separated, at least sectionally, from the trench-like filling of the outer area, by means of at least one separating wall. The inner area comprises at least one first pipe system which is provided with at least one inlet which is arranged in the inner area and at least one outlet emerging from the inner area which is used to guide the liquids through, which is arranged, at least sectionally, in the material of the first trench-like filling of the inner area. The invention also relates to a method for producing electric energy, comprising the following steps a) a multi-chamber heat accumulator is provided according to the inventive claims, b) energy is fed to the inner area via the first pipe system by guiding heated fluid such that the temperature of the inner area is on average at least 110° C, c) the thermal energy is fed and stored in the inner area in order to evaporate a work fluid, in particular, a mixture comprising ammonia and water, or to evaporate liquid, slightly volatile organic compounds or to evaporate liquefied inert gases, d) at least one steam turbine is driven by the steam emerging from the work fluid during the evaporation process and e) the kinetic energy is converted into electric energy by the moving steam turbine.
