    • An electrical switching device (100) that includes first and second circuit assemblies (102, 103). Each of the first and second circuit assemblies (102, 103) includes a base terminal (106A, 106B) and a moveable terminal (104A, 104B) that is configured to flex to and from the base terminal (106A, 106B). The switching device (100) also includes a coupling element (116) that is operatively coupled to the moveable terminals (104A, 104B) of the first and second circuit assemblies (102, 103). The switching device (100) also includes an electromechanical motor (114) that has a pivot body that is operatively coupled to the coupling element (116). The pivot body is configured to rotate bi-directionally about a center of rotation. The pivot body moves the coupling element (116) side-to-side along a longitudinal axis so that the moveable terminals (104A, 104B) move in a common direction with respect to each other and along the longitudinal axis when the pivot body is rotated between first and second rotational positions.

    • The invention is directed to a switch assembly (100) which can be used in situation in which the switch accommodates the flow of high voltage current. An actuator assembly (206) with moveable contacts (209) is moved by a motor driven armature (211). The moveable contacts (209) are in electrical engagement with the stationary contacts (203) when the armature (211) is in the first position, and the moveable contacts (209) are spaced from the stationary contacts (203) when the armature (211) is in the second position. By angling the stationary contacts (203) and moveable contacts (209), the linear motion of the armature (211) causes the moveable contacts (209) to move across the surface of the stationary contacts (203) as the armature (211 ) approaches the first position. As all of the movements of the assembly (100) are in a direction parallel to the axis of the armature (211), the assembly (100) can be manufactured and operated reliably in a relatively small space. In addition, the linear movement on the angled contact provides for a positive electrical connection even in adverse environments.
