Thermionic amplifiers, detectors, and generators. - In dynamo-electric machines for supplying anode and filament voltages in which the power element comprises an armature having two windings with a commutator connected to each winding, the field is produced by permanent bar magnets of cobalt steel connected by laminated pole-pieces A having chamfered tips. Hollow endcaps A of insulating material are provided and these support the bearings and brushes. Smoothing circuits are provided on the filament and anode sides of the machine, the input circuit comprising a choke F in conjunction with the filament battery used as a capacity element. The output smoothing circuit comprises a pair of symmetrical choke coils C, C2 mounted side by side on the same laminated core, a condenser E being connected across the coils. A pair of condensers E, E may be employed and these may be connected as shown in Fig. 5. or when the filament battery is used as a capacity element on the input side the condenser E may be connected in parallel with E across the terminals E . The chokes are constructed as units on a base C provided with an insulating cover C‹ carrying the coil terminals C'. Extra smoothing circuits can be added if required. A high resistance H wound inductively and provided with tappings H , H , H is employed on the output side for tapping off voltages to high and low frequency circuits. A relatively large condenser J is connected across the resistance H. A rheostat B with an off-position is provided on the input side to regulate the anode voltage. The armature is wound with a larger number of coils and provided with more commutator segments than usual and is overwound with iron wire. The elements are built up as a complete unit construction provided with rubber feet K and buffers K for deadening the noise produced by mechanical vibration.
