Class 47 [Also in Group XXIX] A foam discharge nozzle for fire extinguishing has a tapering section 14b with doors 17 each of which pivots, by means of a block 18, on a rod 15 fixed to the nozzle. A conical screen 24 is fastened to a cage 24a and surrounds the tapering section. With the doors closed the foam entering the nozzle at 14a is ejected in a longrange stream from the outlet 14c. With the doors open a part of the foam leaves the section 14b and passes through the screen to provide a cone-shaped stream for close-range use. In order to open or close all the doors simultaneously each door has a lever 20 which engages a fork 21 secured to a rotatable ring 22. By turning the ring by handles 25 all the doors are opened or closed, and the ring and doors are held in any one of a number of positions by a spring catch 26 which engages one of a number of slots 27 in the ring. Rubber gasket strips may be secured to the door edges. In a modification each door is hinged to the tapering section-of the nozzle at one side of its opening and opens inwardly. In Figs. 11 and 12 the nozzle has two opposed openings 71 and a pair of doors 73 pivoted on transverse axes 74. Interengaging sector gears 77 are mounted on the axes so that both doors are opened or closed simultaneously. A conical cowl and screen 79 and 80 respectively are provided, and the doors are operated by a lever 81 which is held in one of a number of positions within a slot in a guide plate 82 by a spring- loaded locking pin 83.
