    • A biopsy forceps instrument (10) is provided having a proximal actuation handle (12), a flexible multi-lumen tubular member (14), at least one control member (23) extending through a lumen(70), an irrigation means (24, 25), an aspiration means (26, 27), and a distal assembly (22). The proximal actuation handle (12) includes a shaft (30) and a spool (34) slidably mounted on the shaft (30). The actuation handle (12) is coupled to the proximal ends of both the flexible tubular member (14) and the control member (23). Lumens of the tubular member (14) form irrigation and aspiration conduits (72, 74). The distal assembly (22) includes a hollow jaw cup (88) coupled to the aspiration conduit (74), and a hollow movable jaw (90) coupled to the irrigation conduit (72). The movable jaw (90) is coupled to the control member (23), such that actuation of the actuation handle (12) moves the movable jaw (90) relative to the jaw cup (88). Moving the hollow jaw (90) into a closed position provides a substantially fluidtight coupling between the irrigation and aspiration conduits (72, 74).

    • A bipolar push rod assembly (20) is disclosed in conjunction with an endoscopic bipolar cautery scissors instrument (10). The push rod assembly (20) has two conductive push rods (32, 34) which are substantially covered and insulated from each other by a double lumen flexible sheath (44). The proximal ends (32a, 34a) of the push rods (32, 34) are stabilized by an over-molded plastic collar (36), and the distal ends (32b, 34b) of the push rods (32, 34) are stabilized by a ceramic insulator (38). The plastic collar (36) is provided with a snap retainer (48) for coupling it to a plastic plug retainer having a pair of spaced apart passages (48e, 48f). A pair of female plug adapters (50, 52) are press fit onto the proximal ends (32a, 34a) of the push rods (32, 34), and are maintained in place by the plug retainer (48) with each adaptor (50, 52) residing in a respective one of the passages (48e, 48f). The distal ends (32b, 34b) of the push rods (32, 34) are swaged approximately 90 degrees in opposite directions. A ceramic insulator (38) is disclosed as a one-piece unit into which the distal ends (32b, 34b) of the push rods (32, 34) are inserted. Another ceramic insulator (238) is disclosed as a two-piece member (238a, 238b) which fits around the distal ends (32b, 34b) of the push rods (32, 34). A double lumen sealing gasket (46) which interrupts the double lumen sheath (44) is also disclosed.
