An emulsion includes a first liquid, and a plurality of droplets of a second liquid dispersed in the first liquid. The second liquid is at least partially immiscible with the first liquid. The plurality of droplets have an ensemble average radius that is less than about 100 nm and a standard deviation about the ensemble average radius of that is less than about 25% such that the emulsion is substantially transparent to visible light.
