    • A recombinant virus containing a gene of a surface antigen of a bovine leukemia virus incorporated in a vaccinia virus gene and capable of expressing a surface antigen of a bovine leukemia virus; a process for preparing the recombinant virus comprising the steps of (1) inserting a DNA fraction containing a hemagglutinin gene of vaccinia virus gene origin into a cloning vector to prepare a hemagglutinin gene-containing vector, (2) inserting a surface antigen gene of a bovine leukemia virus into the hemagglutinin gene in the hemagglutinin gene-containing vector and a promoter for the gene to prepare a vector containing the surface antigen gene of the bovine leukemia virus, and (3) incorporating the surface antigen gene of the bovine leukemia virus together with its promoter into the hemagglutinin gene region of the vaccinia virus gene by homologous recombination between the hemagglutinin gene region in the surface antigen gene-containing vector and the hemagglutinin gene region of the vaccinia virus gene; and a process for immunizing mammals against a bovine leukemia virus, which comprises inoculating mammals with the recombinant virus and then with a deactivated bovine leukemia virus or its part having antigenicity.

    • PURPOSE:To provide the title production process so designed that a reaction chamber is packed with a specific mixture followed by ignition and dropping said mixture, hereby creating a microgravitational field equivalent to the space for a short time and producing a high- temperature condition without the need for an electric furnace or the like, thus enabling a homogeneous molten composite to be easily and economically obtained. CONSTITUTION:Firstly, an initial mixture to be ignited is prepared by homogeneously mixing (A) oxide(s) of metal(s) belonging to the fourth-sixth periods in the periodic table, (B) a reducing agent selected from Al, Mg, Zr, and Ti and (C) a non-metal selected from C, B and Si or an oxide therefrom (e.g., B2O3, SiO2). Thence, a mixture 5 containing this initial mixture is packed in a reaction chamber 4 and set on a reaction chamber-loading-and- unloading jig 3 at the upper end of a falling column 2 ca. 100m in height followed by introducing an ignition means 1 made of wire filament into said mixture to effect heating and ignition followed by dropping the reaction chamber 4. The resultant self exothermic reaction in a microgravitational field created during the dropping produces a high-temperature condition of e.g., >=3,000 deg.K to effect melting and homogeneous mixing to form a composite of homogeneous dispersion according to the initial packing distribution. Said composite is then reduced in speed by a heat-resistant shock-absorbing net 6 and received into a cooling medium 7, thus obtaining the objective composite free from interface debonding and so on.
