摘要： Compositions and methods for facilitating the formulation and closure of a corneal flap during LASIK surgery are described. The compositions and methods are based on the use of one or more viscosity-enhancing agents (e.g., chondroitin sulfate) to provide an ophthalmic irrigating solution with improved coating properties and prolonged dwelling time on the cornea, thereby providing lubrication for the microkeratome used to form the corneal flap, reduce corneal epithelial abrasions, and help to produce smooth and consistent cuts with the microkeratome blade.

摘要： A solution packaging system and method of administering a solution are disclosed. One embodiment of the solution packaging system of the present invention comprises a gas-impermeable dual-chamber bag, having a first chamber and a second chamber separated by a frangible (releasable) seal, and an over-wrap member enclosing and containing the dual-chamber inner bag. The dual-chamber bag can be used to package two-part medicinal solutions containing bicarbonate, such as ophthalmic irrigation solutions. The first chamber can be filled with and contain a first part of such an irrigation solution, comprising, for example, a buffer such as bicarbonate. The second chamber can contain the second part of such a solution, comprising, for example, glutathione (GSSG), or other anti-oxidant, and dextrose, or other energy source. Both parts may contain other excipients. The over-wrap member can serve as a dust cover and need not be a moisture or gas barrier, as the dual-chamber inner bag will have sufficient gas barrier properties to minimize the loss of CO2 from the first part of the solution (e.g., the bicarbonate). All of the components of the dual-chamber solution packaging system can withstand steam sterilization. The dual-chamber bag can be fitted with an administration port, which can be manufactured of, for example, polypropylene (PP), and sealed with a stopper (e.g., butyl rubber stopper) and an aluminum crimp seal. The dual-chamber bag can further comprise fill-ports to fill each chamber. The fill port openings can be sealed after filling the chambers and the fill ports cut from the dual-chamber bag. The frangible seal between the chambers of the embodiments of this invention can be broken by the end user to mix and reconstitute the two parts of the solution prior to use.

摘要： A solution packaging system (10) is disclosed. One embodiment of the solution packaging system of the present invention comprises a gas-impermeable dual-chamber bag (15) , having a first chamber (30) and a second chamber (35) separated by a frangible (releasable) seal (25) , and an over-wrap member (20) enclosing and containing the dual-chamber inner bag. The frangible seal between the chambers of the embodiments of this invention can be broken by the end user to mix and reconstitute the two parts of the solution prior to use.

摘要： Solutions and methods for facilitating the closure and sealing of a corneal flap during LASIK surgery are described. The solutions of the invention are mildly hypertonic. The hypertonicity of the solutions causes the corneal flap to contract following the photoablation step of the LASIK procedure, thereby facilitating the fit of the flap upon closure, as well as the adhesion of the flap to adjacent tissues. The solution may also contain a viscosity-enhancing agent to further promote adhesion and sealing of the corneal flap.

摘要： A triple natural polymer viscoelastic composition is disclosed. By combining glucosamine sulfate ("GS"), sodium hyaluronate ("HA") and chondroitin sulfate ("CS"), the triple natural polymer viscoelastic compositions of this invention can provide a viscoelastic agent at a surgical site that not only serves as a protective agent to ocular tissues, but that can also act as an agent to alleviate pain and inflammation associated with ocular surgery. Embodiments of this invention can comprise GS combined with existing HA/CS viscoelastic agents. Embodiments of this invention can also comprise GS and CS in combination with an irrigation solution. Further, to enhance retention time at the site of an intra-articulate application of an embodiment of this invention, the following biodegradable polymers may also be included in an embodiment of the compositions of the present invention: cellulose derivatives (e.g., hydroxypropylmethylcellulose, ethylcellulose, caboxymethylcellulose, etc.), carbopol, citosan, and collagen.
