    • The method according to the invention relates to the making, without material removal, of grooves such as helical threads on the wall of tubes made of ductile or plastic materials. It consists in operating a knurling roller (11) having a radius (R1) which may freely rotate about an axis (X3). Said axis describes in the direction indicated by the arrow (F2) a predetermined closed curve (12) which is in the case of the figure a circumference having a radius (R2) and an axis (X4). The envelope-curve of the path of the forming edge (15) of the nearling tool presents with the revolution wall (10) having the axis (X2) an intersection area (13). The diameter of the knurling roller is bigger than the diameter of the circumference (12). A helical thread is obtained by the relative displacement of the revolution wall (10) along its axis (X2) with respect to the knurling roller (11).
