摘要： Cosmetic method and apparatus are provided that can provide cooling and/or freezing of skin tissue proximal to the skin surface to generate an appearance of lightening or reduced pigmentation in the skin. The skin can be cooled to a temperature of less than about −5 degrees Celsius for a duration of about one minute or less, using a plurality of cooled contact surfaces, each having a width between about 2 mm and about 20 mm. A cooling arrangement can be provided to provide controlled heat removal from the skin tissue being treated. A sensor can optionally be provided to detect freezing of tissue proximal to the cooled surfaces.

摘要： Exemplary embodiments of the present disclosure provide methods and apparatus for heating and removing subcutaneous fatty tissue using radiation. For example, an ablative laser or the like can be configured to generate a small hole in skin tissue that passes through the entire layer of dermal tissue. The hole size can be small, e.g., on less than about 1 mm or 0.5 mm in diameter. Continued application of the radiation can heat and/or vaporize subcutaneous fat proximal to the lower portion of the hole. Expansion of the heated or vaporized fatty tissue can facilitate ejection of the fatty tissue from the formed hole. The energy of a radiation pulse used to form a hole and heat the fatty tissue can be, e.g., greater than about 0.5 J, e.g., between about 0.5 J and about 35 J. The skin tissue can be cooled or partially frozen before forming one or more such holes therein, and a stabilizing film or plate may be adhered to the skin surface to help stabilize the ablated holes.

For example, energy can be provided by a chemical reaction, such as by combustion of a fine metallic filament, which can be used to generate a high-intensity pulse of energy without requiring external energy sources. Various parameters of the reactive materials and enclosures can be selected and/or applied to provide a radiation pulse having particular characteristics, including fluence, peak intensity, and radiation wavelength distribution. Various filters may be provided to further modify characteristics of the radiation. Such radiation pulses can be used to irradiate tissue such as skin to obtain various therapeutic or beneficial effects, including improvement in the appearance of pigmented or venous lesions.

摘要： A system, method and apparatus are provided for treating dermatological conditions by generating a relatively large amount of thermal damage beneath a skin surface while generating relatively little thermal damage to the skin surface and/or epidermis. For example, the exemplary system, method and apparatus provide for directing a radiation beam onto a target location on the skin surface to thermally damage a volume of tissue beneath the target location, and directing a second radiation beam onto the same target location to thermally damage a different volume of tissue beneath the target location. The radiation beams may include ablative and/or non-ablative laser beams, or they may be generated by, e.g., a flashlamp, a tungsten lamp, a diode, or a diode array. The two beams may be pulsed. Further, they can be part of a single continuous wave beam, which can be rotated around an axis which passes through the target area, or which can be directed at a plurality of angles with respect to the skin surface.

摘要： A method and apparatus are provided for dermatological treatment by focusing ultrasound energy in a volume of tissue below the dermis to obtain selective heating and thermal damage of certain portions of the volume while sparing other portions of the treatment volume from thermal damage. Selective heating of fibrous septae can be achieved while relatively sparing surrounding fatty tissue, which can lead to some shrinkage of the fibrous septae and reduction in the appearance of wrinkles. The matrix of hair follicles can also be selectively heated to provide relatively safe temporary or permanent hair removal. The superficial musculoaponeurotic system can also be selectively heated to obtain a tightening of the overlying skin.
