    • In a multi-rate digital signal processing system for re-sizing an image in at least two segments using at least two symmetric T-tap digital filters each having T kernel-function weighting coefficients, where T is an odd plural integer, a first one of the segments being characterized by a first plurality of unfiltered pixels and second adjacent one of the segments being characterized by a second plurality of unfiltered pixels, a predetermined one of the unfiltered pixels being common to both the first and the second plurality at the image boundary of the two segments, the improvement comprising a method of seamlessly extending the image across the image boundary, comprising the steps of multiplying the (T-1)/2 of the first plurality and the second plurality of the unfiltered pixels adjacent the predetermined one of the pixels by two times respective ones of the kernel function weighting coefficients for generating the first and second mirrored half kernel intermediate multiplication products; multiplying the predetermined one of the pixels by a centre-tap kernel-function weighting coefficient of the digital filter to generate an additional intermediate multiplication product; adding the first mirrored half-kernel intermediate multiplication products and the additional intermediate multiplication product to generate a first segment estimated boundary filtered output pixel; adding the second mirrored half-kernel intermediate multiplication products and the additional intermediate multiplication product to generate a second segment estimated boundary filtered output pixel; and averaging the first segment estimated boundary filtered output pixel and the segment.

    • A method for stabilising a DC voltage by means of a switched, saturated inductor. The method relates to the stabilisation of a DC voltage which has been produced from an unstable AC voltage, which is characterised by an on-phase and an off-phase, by rectification, averaging and the assistance of a saturated inductor. The inductor is connected in series with the AC voltage source and controls the power flow from said source to the load by a specific, unsaturated magnetisation state being impressed on it at the start of the on-phase in order that the load current to the load, which occurs with saturation of the inductor, is delayed in a metered manner. Known methods adjust the unsaturated magnetisation state with relatively high losses in the actuating element. According to the invention, the magnetisation state of the inductor at the start of the on-phase is brought about in an objective manner and with low losses in that said inductor is demagnetised virtually down to the desired value during the off-phase via the same circuit which carries the load current, and is short-circuited from this point in time to the end of the off-phase, in order to maintain the magnetic field. The method is used in the case of switched power supply units (switched-mode power supplies) for stabilisation of the unregulated outputs.

    • Utilising the relatively strong paramagnetic properties of oxygen, with the aid of the special magnetic filter construction according to the invention having filter elements comprising magnetisable material, the oxygen portion of an oxygen-containing gas mixture flowing through these elements is greatly enriched. Different embodiments are proposed for the construction of the filter elements, that is to say a slotted sheet metal construction of permanently magnetisable material and a package construction of non-permanently magnetisable yoke sheet metal packages and permanently magnetisable longitudinal bridges. Diverse embodiments of these fundamental solutions according to the invention achieve further technical advantages which are aimed both at an increase of the filter activity and at specific applications. The increase of the activity in the enrichment of oxygen in the filtered gas mixture is achieved, inter alia, by the proposed measures for improved intake by suction of the oxygen from the external region of the magnetic field. The further proposals aimed at particular applications deal with, inter alia, the use of the magnetic filter in internal combustion engines in order to reduce the pollutant content of the exhaust gases of the same.
