Means for enhancing downward force (50) on the rake head as it travels through the water is provided in one preferred embodiment by a rotatable member (54) that is actuated by the user by pulling on a rope (58) that extends to shore. The rotatable member (54) is generally aligned with a planar member (52) to increase the distance the rake will travel from shore, and is then rotated to a second position that imparts the downward force on the rake head.
