    • Wire catch for a baler, comprising an elongated wire catch body (1,31) having between a fixed end (2) and a free end (3) thereof a recess (4,34) in which is suspended a wheel (6,36). The axis of rotation (7) of the wheel (6,36) is directed substantially transverse to the centreline of the wire catch body (1,31) The recess (4,34) comprises a first guide surface (10) adjoining a circumferential portion (11) of the wheel (6,36) that faces the fixed end (2). A second guide surface is provided opposite the first guide surface (10), which second surface converges towards the first guide surface (10) in the direction of the free end (3) of the wire catch body (1,31). According to the invention, the second guide surface is constituted by a portion (12), located remote from the first guide surface (10), of the circumferential portion of the wheel (6,36) that faces the fixed end (2). The invention prevents the space between the first and the second guide surfaces from becoming clogged with compressed material.

    • During the pressing of bales in a baler, a portion of a press channel (1) in front of a retracted press ram (2) is in each case completely filled with material to be compacted. During compacting, the pressure forces exerted on the press ram (2) have a resultant which intersects the side (3) of the press ram (2) directed in pressing direction (11) below the center (7) thereof or below the center of the press channel section at the location of that side (3) of the press ram (2). The press ram shows less tendency to tilt, as a consequence of which the press ram guide is less loaded and less friction occurs between the press ram and the press channel. As a result, the bale is compressed more properly and the press ram guide wears less.
