    • A process transmitter includes at least one sensor which monitors a process variable, and analog-to-digital (A/D) converter circuitry coupled to the at least one sensor and configured to provide process variable data indicative of process variable values. A digital signal processor (DSP) is coupled to the A/D converter circuitry to receive the process variable data. The DSP comprises a co-processor configured to receive and perform calculations on the process variable data from the A/D converter circuitry to generate output data. Communications circuitry of the process transmitter is configured either to control communication over loop wiring which can be coupled to the process transmitter, or to control wireless communications with the process transmitter. A microprocessor, separate from the co-processor of the DSP, is coupled between the co-processor and the communications circuitry to control movement of the output data from the DSP to the communications circuitry.

    • An ice detector circuit for sensing an ice deposition on a sensing surface of an ice detector probe from an air mass flowing relative to the probe. The probe includes a heater to heat the sensing surface and a temperature sensor for sensing the sensing surface temperature during heating. The temperature sensor provides the circuit with an output having a level varying as a function of the sensing surface temperature. The circuit includes a controller which selectively energizes the heater, a timer which provides a timing output representative of a time interval elapsed between selected temperature sensor output levels, and computing means, such as a microprocessor, which computes an output representative of ice deposition as a function of a predetermined relationship between ice deposition and the timing output.

    • A sensor tube for protecting a sensor inserted into a moving process fluid is provided. The sensor tube includes a process interface section for mounting to a process vessel and an extended section extending from the process interface section to a sealed end. The extended section includes a twisted section having a longitudinal axis. The process interface section and the extended section define a sensor bore configured to receive a sensor therein. The twisted section has a cross section that includes at least three equally sized walls and wherein the walls form helixes along the longitudinal axis of the twisted section.

    • A vortex sensor used in a vortex flowmeter that has a single sensing diaphragm parallel to the direction of flow that is sensitive to differential pressures caused by vortices shed by a vortex shedding bar associated with the sensing diaphragm. A beam is attached to the sensing diaphragm and it transfers the deflecting motion of the sensing diaphragm due to differential pressures to a sensor external to the flow passageway. The sensor provides an output indicating motions of the beam caused by the beam pivoting when the sensing diaphragm deflects. The beam preferably is pivoted on a relatively rigid, fluid-tight isolator diaphragm with one end of the beam on the outside of the isolator diaphragm. The sensing diaphragm which is used to measure differential pressure rejects variations in the static pressure, that is, increases and decreases of the static pressure on both sides of the diaphragm, which is a common source of problems with existing vortex flowmeter sensors.
