    • A powered parachute or pendulum flying machine which includes a mechanism for shortening the chord length of the parachute wing, a mechanism for shortening the distance between the upper and lower airflow surfaces of the parachute wing, and a mechanism for adjusting position of the pilot module relative to the wing so as to adjust the center of gravity of the powered parachute. The mechanism for shortening chord length includes a tube running along the trailing edge of the parachute wing and control lines running from the tube to the pilot module. Pulling in the lines draws the tube forwardly and shortens the chord length. Preferably at the same time as the chord length is decreased, wing height is decreased by the mechanism for shortening the distance between the upper and lower airflow surfaces. Such is accomplished by collapsing a wall disposed between the upper and lower airflow surfaces to the pilot module. When chord length and wing height are decreased, drag is reduced and the speed of the powered parachute increases. To slow down the flying pendulum machine, the chord length lines and wing height lines are slowly released and the release or letting out of such lines is aided by air pressure in air cells in the parachute wing. Further, preferably at the same time as shortening chord length and frame and decreasing wing height, the pilot module is advanced forwardly on the wing via the center of gravity adjustment mechanism, which includes a toothed drive wheel meshing with a toothed frame portion of the wing. The toothed drive wheel is operated by the pilot pulling on a line, which drives a pulley on the drive wheel. Additionally, large scale modified versions of this speed enhanced power parachute can be used on aircraft as a short field take off and landing augmentation which is stowable during regular flight.

    • A reflector for focusing sunlight upon a single location. The reflector is preferably positioned in orbit about a celestial body to focus sunlight on objects such as space debris to heat up and vaporize such debris. The reflector includes a plurality of units in an array, with each of the units including a plurality of subunits. Each of the units rotates about a first axis and each of the subunits is tiltable about a second axis which is perpendicular to the second axis. A reflecting surface is mounted on each of the subunits such that the reflecting surface rotates with its respective unit and tilts with its respective subunit. Such rotation and tilting permits sunlight to be directed theoretically anywhere on one side of a plane. Each of the units and each of the subunits is independently controllable, and this permits each of the units directs sunlight to a single location onto a single object, which then heats up rapidly to a relatively great temperature until it vaporizes under the intense heat. A second reflecting structure having a massive flat planar reflecting surface may be positioned off to the rear side of the array to reflect sunlight onto the rear side. The rearwardly directed sunlight may then be focused by the reflecting surfaces of the units since the array is one unit thick and since the reflecting surfaces rotate into and out of front and rear positions. Accordingly, this second reflecting structure permits sunlight to be focused behind the array.

    • A strap on implement support mechanism which includes a belt, a support extending from the belt, and an implement engaged to the support such that the computer implement remains on the support during normal movement as walking, sitting, getting up from the sitting position, bending down, turning around, and twisting around. The implement is preferably a computer implement. A shock absorber is preferably engaged between the belt and the support to minimize jarring to the computer implement when the support comes into contact with an object. The vented belt mechanism includes a relatively wide and cushioned section between the belt and the person to distribute the pressure from wearing the belt over a rather large area of the midsection of the person wearing the strap on support mechanism. The support includes a framework having frame portions extending laterally, vertically, longitudinally, and obliquely. Frame portions preferably define a periphery of the support and a net is preferably engaged to the frame portions for supporting the computer implement. The net by itself or another connector such as a hook and loop connector, minimizes lateral and transverse movement of the computer implement relative to the support. Additionally, the netting provides adequate ventilation for the implement such as for a computer.

    • A rotating cylindrical piston engine with a variable effective compression stroke. The present engine shuttles the piston during the power stroke as far as possible in the cylinder to maximize the use of the power provided by the fluid explosion. Since as much as possible of the explosion force is used, i.e., preferably until the exhaust gas reaches ambient temperature or pressure, the exhaust gas is cooler and thus the engine may need no external water cooling, allowing internal air cooling in the cylinder by intake air to be complemented by the cooling with the exhaust gas. Preferably, such linear motion of the shuttling piston over such a great length is converted to rotary motion by forcing the piston to spin in the cylinder as the piston is driven the length of the cylinder. The relative great length of the stroke of the piston captures a great amount of air during the intake stroke, and some of this intake air is expelled during the compression stroke to provide for an effective compression stroke such that the power stroke is of a greater length than the effective compression stroke. The present engine further includes a plate-like cylinder head, a plate-like rotary valve, and plate-like manifold to provide for a compact head arrangement. The present engine further includes a compression release port which may be opened during the power stroke to permit the piston to act like a brake relative to the power output shaft. The present engine further includes a track and rider arrangement for converting the linear shuttling motion of the piston into rotary motion. The present invention further includes an assembly between the piston and a power output shaft for transmitting the rotary motion to the power output shaft. The present engine further includes a fuel pump assembly, a timing assembly, and an engine isolation arrangement.
