    • A pneumatic tire in accordance with the present invention includes two annular bead portions, a carcass, and a belt reinforcement layer. The carcass extends between the bead portions through sidewall portions and a tread portion. The carcass has at least one carcass ply of parallel cords turned up about the bead portions. The belt reinforcement layer is disposed radially outside the carcass and radially inside the tread portion. Each annular bead portion includes an annular bead core having the carcass ply turned up around the bead core, a first apex disposed adjacent and radially outward of the bead core, a second apex disposed axially outward of the bead core and the carcass ply, a first chafer disposed adjacent the carcass ply and axially outward of the bead core, and a second chafer disposed adjacent and axially outward the second apex and axially inward a sidewall portion. The first apex comprises a material with a 100 percent modulus between 1.0 MPa and 6.0 MPa. The second apex comprises a material with a 100 percent modulus between 1.0 MPa and 6.0 MPa. The first chafer comprises a material with a 100 percent modulus between 2.0 MPa and 4.0 MPa. The second chafer comprises a material with a 100 percent modulus between 1.0 MPa and 6.0 MPa. The sidewall portions comprise a material with a 100 percent modulus between 1.0 MPa and 2.0 MPa.

    • This invention relates to a tire with a rubber sidewall having at least one layered rubber composite integral with a portion of its outer surface as a means of visibly identifying the tire. The layered composite is an integral composite in a sense of being comprised of a base rubber layer and a contrastingly colored marking rubber layer being partially pre-cured together prior to application to the outer surface of an uncured rubber sidewall. The integrally layered composite and tire rubber sidewall are integral in a sense of being co-cured together with the surface of the base rubber layer facing the rubber sidewall surface. The base rubber layer is a black colored carbon black reinforced rubber layer. The marking rubber layer is of color which contrasts with the black color of the base rubber layer. The base layer is a protective rubber layer which extends beyond the peripheral edges of said marking layer and is protective in a sense of inhibiting, or retarding, discoloring materials from migrating through it to the contrastingly colored marking layer.

    • This invention relates to a pneumatic tire having a built-in non-black colored sealant layer and its preparation. The sealant layer is derived from a sealant precursor layer comprised of a butyl rubber, organoperoxide, particulate, synthetic amorphous silica and plant-derived organic agricultural seed flour, together with a non-black colored colorant. The butyl rubber-based sealant precursor layer is build into the tire to form a tire assembly and the butyl rubber component of the sealant precursor layer is depolymerized during a subsequent curing of the tire at an elevated temperature in a suitable mold to form the tire having the resultant built-in sealant. The particulate plant derived organic agricultural seed flour is a renewable raw material in a sense that it can be replenished in nature and therefore not as a significant depletion of non-renewable natural resource. The agricultural plant seed flour is comprised of at least a portion of a ground plant seed (e.g. whole or partial seed portion including for example its nucleus and/or shell) of an agricultural seed producing plant such as, for example, wheat, rye, rice, barley, oat, mullet, soybean and/or corn. The sealant layer may also contain one or more of a liquid polyisoprene and short organic fibers. Preferably, the amorphous silica is a precipitated silica, namely aggregates of primary silica particles.

    • Balance pads for balancing pneumatic tires having DVA innerliners, and methods for balancing such pneumatic tires, are disclosed. In one embodiment, a balance pad is provided for balancing a pneumatic tire having a DVA innerliner. The balance pad includes an outer layer having a dynamically vulcanized alloy, which comprises an engineering resin as a continuous phase and at least a partially vulcanized rubber as a dispersed phase. The balance pad further includes an inner layer having a rubber or plastic compound that is bonded to the outer layer. The outer layer is capable of being bonded to an inner surface of a tire innerliner, which includes a dynamically vulcanized alloy having an engineering resin as a continuous phase and at least a partially vulcanized rubber as a dispersed phase.
