    • A cable for transmitting high voltage electricity for use with an electric submersible pump has a plurality of solid conductors for conducting electricity along the length of the cable. The solid conductors are uniformly and firmly bonded to the surrounding insulation with a thin bonding layer applied directly over the conductor. A layer of conductive fabric tape surrounds the insulation to form an outer stress control layer. The insulated conductors are surrounded by an extruded layer of lead. A second layer of fabric tape surrounds the lead. An armored outer layer surrounds the insulated conductors and the lead. Space between the insulated and wrapped conductors and the armored outer layer is filled with a jacket material.

    • A heater cable is deployed in a well bore to elevate the temperature of the wellbore above the temperature of the surrounding fluid and the formation. One or more fiber optic strings are included in or carried by the heater cable which is placed along a desired length of the wellbore. At least one fiber optic string measures temperature of the heater cable at a plurality of spaced apart locations. Another string is utilized to determine the temperature of the wellbore. The heater cable is heated above the temperature of the well bore. The fluid flowing from the formation to the wellbore lowers the temperature of the cable at the inflow locations. The fiber optic string provides measurements of the temperature along the heater cable. The fluid flow is determined from the temperature profile of the heater cable provided by the fiber optic sensors.

    • The present invention provides a heater cable (10) that may be deployed in a wellbore to elevate the temperature of the wellbore above the temperature of the surrounding fluid and the formation. One or more fiber optic strings are included in or are carried by the heater cable. The heater cable carrying the fiber optics is placed along the desired length of the wellbore. At least one fiber optic string measures temperature of the heater cable at a plurality of spaced apart locations. Another string may be utilized to determine the temperature of the wellbore. In one aspect of this invention, the heater cable is heated above the temperature of the wellbore. The fluid flowing from the formation to the wellbore lowers the temperature of the cable at the inflow locations. The fiber optic string provides measurements of the temperature along the heater cable. The fluid flow is determined from the temperature profile of the heater cable provided by the fiber optic sensors.

    • A multi-conductor parallel array armored electrical power cable includes a pair of longitudinal spring members. The longitudinal spring members help maintain compactness between conductor assemblies within the power cable after a protective armor has been applied. The longitudinal spring members are installed between the outer most conductors and the armor of the cable. The unique shape of the spring members along with their placement during assembly absorb much larger tangential forces normally accepted when applying the armor to the cable. The spring members become distorted from their original shape and, as the armored cable is further formed to its final shape, the longitudinal spring members substantially return to their original shape to urge the conductor assemblies together.
