摘要： The invention provides pyrotechnic sheet material comprising a substrate of oxidizing polymeric film, for example a film of halogenopolymer, having a coating layer of oxidizable material, for example magnesium, on at least part of its surface, the substrate and the oxidizable material being conjointly capable of reacting together on ignition. Overlying at least a portion of the surface area of the substrate and/or the oxidizable material is a layer of gas-generating deflagrating material, for example a nitrocellulose propellant, which may for example be an adherent layer or a separate layer such as a co-rolled layer. The deflagrating material enhances the flame transmission properties and igniting ability of igniferous booster charges comprising the pyrotechnic sheet material. It also protects the oxidizable material from atmospheric oxidization.

摘要： The pyrotechnic ignition device of this invention comprises a hollow tubular coiled charge of pyrotechnic sheet material defining an ignition initiation position, the internal diameter of the charge decreasing and the wall thickness increasing over at least a portion of the charge extending from the initiation position in the direction of burning. This configuration enhances the reliability of ignition and the rate of flame development. Preferably the adjacent plies of the coiled charge are spaced apart. The preferred coiled charge also has a portion downstream from the initiation position in the direction of burning which decreases,in external diameter and wall thickness in a direction extending away from the initiation position, the configuration of this portion being effective to enhance the speed and violence of burning of a main gas-generating propellant charge ignited by the coiled charge. In the preferred device a pyrotechnic sheet comprising a substrate of oxidizing polymeric film coated with an oxidizable metal, for example magnesium, is coiled around a cruciate axial former so that the end edges define helices. Conveniently the coiled charge may be formed by winding the sheet into a right cylindrical tubular coil and pushing out the coil axially from the centre in the direction of burning.

摘要： The invention provides an improved process for the production of a pyrotechnic or explosive device containing encased hazardous solid material wherein the material is dispersed in an inert liquid, the dispersion is formed into droplets and the droplets are solidified in a cooling medium. The solidified droplets are loaded into a casing and freeze-dried in situ in the casing to produce dry particles of the hazardous material, which may optionally be pressed within the casing, advantageously under vacuum. Only the operations (if any) subsequent to the freezedrying need special precautions to be taken to prevent damage to personnel or equipment. The invention is advantageous for the preparation of detonators, igniters and other devices containing hazardous materials for example lead azide, lead styphnate, pentaerythritol tetranitrate and boron/potassium nitrate mixtures.

摘要： A pyrotechnic device (10) comprises an igniferous explosive train (11, 12), in a container (13) in association with appropriate initiation means (14). The explosive train comprises a charge of incendiary material (12) ignitable by the initiation means and a charge of deflagrating explosive material (11) ignitable by the charge of incendiary material, the deflagrating explosive material being a compressed mixture of particulate secondary explosive material and incendiary material. The deflagrating charge maximum dimension is less than the minimum distance for burning to detonation transition to occur in the deflagrating charge. Suitable deflagrating charge compositions comprise secondary explosive materials such as for example, PETN (pentaerythritoltetranitrate) HMX (cyclo-tetramethylene tetranitramine), RDX (trimethylene trinitramine), HNAB (2,2,4,4,6,6 hexanitroazobenzene) or HNS (hexanitrostilbene) intimately mixed with an incendiary material, for example potassium picrate, or barium styphnate. The charge of incendiary material may comprise barium styphnate or lead styphnate and the initiation means is conveniently a low voltage bridgewire (20).
