    • A shift lever device which includes: a shift lever turnably fitted on a stationary member; an engaging member for engagement of the shift lever with the stationary member; and a knob fitted on the shift lever. The engaging member is moved toward its distal end to disengage from the stationary member. The knob includes a knob body provided with a fitting hole into which the shift lever is inserted together with a first engaging part of the engaging member, a button pivoted on the knob body, and a link lever connected to the button, having a second engaging part for engagement with the first engaging part. When the shift lever is inserted into the fitting hole and the distal end thereof reaches a predetermined position therein, the button is operated to have the second engaging part engaged with the first engaging part.

    • A gear mechanism is arranged between input and output shafts and powered by an electric motor. The gear mechanism includes an assist shaft by which a rotation ratio between the input and output shafts is varied with the aid of an electric motor. A connecting unit has a first condition wherein the output shaft and the assist shaft are permitted to make a relative rotation therebetween thereby to cause the gear mechanism to operate normally and a second condition wherein the output shaft and the assist shaft are united together thereby to induce an integral rotation therebetween. The second condition induces a condition wherein the output shaft is rotated in the same direction as the input shaft and the rotation ratio between the input and output shafts is 1:1.

    • A recording unit according to the present invention includes a holding member, a recording element held on the holding member, an ink supply section held on the holding member, and a guiding portion provided in the holding member. The guiding portion guides a recording medium so as to prevent the recording medium from contacting the recording element. An image recording apparatus according to the present invention includes a conveying mechanism having a conveying member on which a recording medium is placed for conveyance, a recording unit, and a fixing member which fixes the recording unit. A guiding portion of the recording unit guides the recording medium to the conveying member so as to prevent the recording medium from contacting the recording element. The guiding portion also maintains a constant gap between the recording medium and the recording element to achieve high-quality image recording.

    • A lock mechanism for a steering ratio varying device in which a steering ratio increase and decrease shaft is controlled by a motor through a worm gear and a worm wheel. The lock mechanism includes a lock plate mounted on a shaft of the worm gear or a shaft of the motor and having a plurality of cutout portions. Each cutout portion has a corner section. A lock member is engageable with the cutout portion of the lock plate. A lock release member has an inclined surface engageable with the corner section of the cutout portion of the lock plate to push back the lock plate by an amount corresponding to a backlash of the worm gear. An electromagnetic device includes a plunger spring and a solenoid coil. The lock member and the lock release member are engaged with the cutout portion of the lock plate by a pushing force of the plunger and disengaged from the cutout portion by an attracting force of the solenoid coil. A tight meshing between the lock plate and the lock member is prevented by the lock release member.

The second housing supporting the first bevel gear moves toward the output shaft by a position adjustment mechanism. The gear supporting shafts supporting the third and the fourth bevel gears also move toward the output shaft in the differential gear casing by virtue of the movement of the second housing.
