    • Provided is an Ethernet-to-serial gateway apparatus including: a buffer manager to verify a characteristic of a data packet received via an Ethernet interface, and to thereby select a buffer for storing the data packet, and to store the data packet in the selected buffer; a packet scheduler to extract a data packet from the buffer according to a predetermined policy; a packet distributor to verify a destination address of the extracted data packet, and to thereby obtain serial interface information associated with at least one target apparatus to which the extracted data packet is transmitted; and a serial communication unit to transmit the extracted data packet to the at least one target apparatus via a corresponding serial interface based on the serial interface information.

    • Provided are a system and method for hierarchical message transmission between devices in a network environment including heterogeneous networks. The system is for hierarchical message transmission between devices in a heterogeneous network environment in which a plurality of sub-networks including at least one device and having different characteristics are configured in the form of a hierarchical tree with respect to a super-network. Aggregators for collecting and transferring device information on the devices to another network, the super-network, or the sub-networks are prepared in the super-network and sub-networks. Each of the devices includes an application service interface, a plurality of network adapters, a network manager, an address mapping and storage unit, and a message manager. Accordingly, devices can effectively communicate with each other, and in a network environment including heterogeneous networks, communication between the devices and management of the devices can be provided simply and comprehensively.

    • A system for fault prediction in a home network includes: a context generator for generating context information based on status data collected in real time about components of the home network; a specification interpreter for generating knowledge rules for fault detection by using specifications of the components of the home network; a context analyzer for analyzing if the context information meet the knowledge rules to classify the context information into normal situation contexts and abnormal situation contexts; a context pattern learner for generating new knowledge rules based on the abnormal situation contexts and fault rules corresponding to the abnormal situation contexts; a knowledge rule database for storing and managing the knowledge rules and the new knowledge rules; and a fault predictor for analyzing a correlation between the knowledge rules or the new knowledge rules and the generated context information, thereby predicting faults to be generated.
