    • A method is described for adapting the size of data for a future Transmission Time Interval (TTI) by a User Equipment (UE), wherein all the Media Access Control (MAC)-d flows are grouped and stored in different lists based on a type of grants associated with the MAC-d flows, ability of a MAC-d flow to be multiplexed with another MAC-d flow from a list, and data availability in a logical channel mapped onto a MAC-d flow in the current TTI. The E-TFC is then selected by the UE for the future TTI using the MAC-d flow having the highest power offset in a consolidated list including the grouped MAC-d flows. The size of the data is thereby adapted using the selected E-TFC. Further disclosed is a method for generating RLC PDUs by the UE for the future TTI using the variation in the scheduled grant for the UE and the size of the data adapted for the future TTI.

    • A serving cell change method and apparatus is provided for efficiently performing the serving cell change in a mobile communication system. The UE receives a cell change control information including an activation time from a serving cell, when a downlink channel status of the serving cell is inferior to a downlink channel status of a target cell, reports a measurement result to the serving cell while performing data communication with the serving cell, monitors receipt of a cell change indicator transmitted by the target cell before the expiration of the activation time while performing the data communication with the serving cell, and when the cell change indicator is received, communicates data with the target cell by sending an acknowledgement in response to the cell change indicator and switching to the target cell.

    • A method and system for handling security synchronization for prolonged periods of no-reception of voice frames. The method includes receiving one or more protocol data units (PDUs) by a radio link control (RLC) sub layer and determining a time period between the receiving of each PDU and a previously received PDU by the RLC sub layer. Further, the method includes initiating recovery procedure for the time period exceeding a first predefined time. The recovery procedure includes identifying count of the one or more PDUs to be recovered, deciphering each PDU using a plurality of hyper frame numbers (HFNs) and updating a master HFN based on the deciphering. The master HFN deciphers each PDU among the one or more protocol data units. Further, the method also includes delivering the one or more PDUs to a packet data convergence protocol sub layer where type verification of the PDU is performed.

    • Determination of transmission power control commands in a UE by combining TPC commands received during DTX/DRX modes. The combining is done on those TPC commands which are received on different radio links after ignoring TPC commands which might be received in a DL slot overlapping with no UL transmission. The UE thus uses the combined TPC commands as derived at the time of entry into DTX for the second UL DPCCH preamble transmission which leads to increase in link reliability and subsequent conservation of power by the UE. The UE uses the same power as derived in the previous slot for resumption of transmission when all the TPC commands, received in the DL slot overlapping with no UL transmission, are UP. TPC commands for the transmission of the 2nd DPCCH preamble at transmission resumption is determined by combining stored TPC commands from each of the radio links that were received by the UE while entering into DTX gap and said TPC commands could not be applied with the newly received TPC commands.
