    • PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To make a grain pattern clear by coloring summerwood and springwood sections which form a grain of material surface in different colors.SOLUTION: A coating process comprises: a pretreatment step which renders surface unevenness smooth with a buffing tool such as a sandpaper as a pretreatment, wherein the surface is that of a woody material to be coated; a brush-coating step which brush coats a paint of required color along the grain on the whole surface of woody material pretreated in the pretreatment step; a wiping-off step which waits the paint brush coated in the brush-coating step permeating into the woody material while leaving it for a given length of time and wipes the whole surface of woody material with a wiper such as a cloth; a spray coating step which spray coats a paint of required color after leaving the woody material for a given length of time, wherein the woody material has been wiped free of the former paint in the wiping-off step; and a sealing step which dries the spray coated paint by leaving the woody material spray coated in the spray coating step for a given length of time, applies a sealer on the whole surface of woody material and dries until the sealer makes a coating film and further the coating film cures.

    • A coating apparatus includes a liquid film forming mechanism configured to form a liquid film of a process liquid for preventing a contaminant derived from a coating liquid from being deposited or left on a back side peripheral portion of a substrate. The liquid film forming mechanism includes a counter face portion facing the back side peripheral portion of the substrate and a process liquid supply portion for supplying the process liquid onto the counter face portion. The coating apparatus further includes a posture regulating mechanism disposed around the substrate holding member and configured to damp a vertical wobble of the peripheral portion of the substrate being rotated. The posture regulating mechanism includes delivery holes arrayed in a rotational direction of the substrate and configured to deliver a gas onto a back side region of the substrate on an inner side of the peripheral portion.
