摘要： In one embodiment, a multimedia control and distribution architecture is provided. A media server/controller generates a plurality of graphics signals, each graphics signal including a separate user interface to be displayed on a particular device, such as a touch screen unit. A universal extender (UVX) coupled to the media server/controller converts and extends the graphics signals for transmission on a plurality of universal transmission pathways. Each of the plurality of devices receives a graphic signal passed thereto, displays graphics embodied in the graphics signals, and accept user input in response to the graphics signal. For example, the one or more touch screen units may accept a user touch and pass a location of the user touch back on a universal transmission pathway to the UVX, for transmission to the media server/controller. The media server/controller generates control commands and provides the control commands.

摘要： A telecommunications switch which may be configured to provide a variety of user-programmable communications or call processing services. Such services may be dynamically provided to any port served by the switch without reducing the number of time slots that would otherwise be available for calls. The switch includes a CPU/matrix card, one or more line cards for terminating analog or digital lines or trunks, and one or more programmable communications services cards, all of which are connected in communicating relationship by a series of buses. Each communications services card is independently programmable and includes a processor for processing messages received from the CPU/matrix card. The communications services card provides a basic platform onto which different types of modules may be mounted to meet the requirements of a particular application. One or more digital signal processing modules for performing tone generation, tone reception and call progress analysis may be mounted on a single communications services card. An ISDN PRI server module provides a centralized packet engine which, when programmed in an appropriate fashion, may be used as an ISDN D channel server or to provide packet switching services. Modules for performing other services such as speech recognition, ADPCM compression or tone generation may also be installed on the basic platform.

A user interface programming tool enables a user to customize the appearance and functionality of a graphical user interface to the multimedia controller. A metadata manager automatically collects metadata that is available within the multimedia controller, automatically detects the presence of new media and collects metadata from it, and may also access web resources to locate additional pertinent metadata.
