摘要： A system and method for providing communications between a physically secure programmer and an external device using a cellular network is described. A set of uniquely identifying credentials is securely maintained on a programmer configured to interface with an implantable medical device. A transient connection is automatically established between the programmer and a security server over a cellular network. The credentials are registered with the security server and an operational status is assigned to the programmer following examination of the credentials against a security roster maintained on the security server. The operational status of the programmer is confirmed and a data exchange session is conducted over the cellular network between the programmer and at least one external system subsequent to the confirmation.

摘要： A medical device programmer automatically adjusts parameters to be programmed to a medical device in response to a user modifying related parameters. Slide controllers on the programmer display screen can adjust parameters. In response to slide controller movement, the programmer automatically adjusts related parameters by moving their slide controllers. This graphically illustrates to the user the automatic adjustments being made to the related parameters. and the relationship between parameters being adjusted by the user and automatically. In response to on screen parameter changes, the system graphically illustrates the parameter values that are changed and those that are programmed to the medical device and those that would cause unsafe condition in the medical device if programmed. The method also prevents the programming to the medical device the parameters that would cause an unsafe condition.

A preferred embodiment comprises a user-friendly, color, touch-sensitive screen that allows the user to visually observe and control the handheld's operation. The handheld further comprises an internal and/or external analytical means to provide robust analytical capabilities. Some embodiments of a system disclosed herein can be configured as a component of an Advanced Patient Management System that helps better monitor, predict and manage chronic diseases.
