摘要： Methods and apparatus for increasing the accuracy of ultrafiltration in a dialysis machine and decreasing the time required for dialysis. The machine inclused a substantially non-compliant tank for mixing and storing a batch of dialsyate. In a preferred form, the tank is a hollow vessel made from a lightweight and chemically inert material, such as polypropylene, reinforced on its exterior. The machine further includes an ultrafiltration pump for pumping fluid from an extracorporeal circuit to an ultrafiltration tank commensurate with the removal of water from the patient. The pump is calibrated with the volume of fluid in the tank. The reduction in the time to conduct hemodialysis of the patient is achieved by introducing the patient's blood into the arterial line and conducting the blood to the blood pump, measuring the pressure of the blood in the arterial line, increasing the pump rate of the blood pump, and in the event that the pressure measured in the arterial line drops below a predetermined threshold value, slowing the pump rate of the blood pump.

摘要： A hemodialysis machine has ports of a disinfection manifold for receiving the arterial and venous line connectors terminating the arterial and venous lines. The ports are in fluid communication with a hydraulic system that circulates disinfection fluid through the machine including the extracorporeal circuit. The ports are constructed so as to provide a gap extending circumferentially around the arterial and venous line connectors. When the disinfection fluid circulates through the ports of the disinfection manifold, the fluid circulates around the external surfaces of the connectors as well as through the internal fluid passages, thereby insuring a complete disinfection of the connectors.

摘要： A non-invasive technique and system is provided for measuring flow of liquid driven by a flexible diaphragm of a membrane pump (18). Flow, pressure and/or temperature of a gas, such as air, used to drive the pump (18) is continuously monitored. Instantaneous volume of liquid being pulled into or out of a chamber of the pump (18) can be calculated from measured values of the gas used to drive the pump (18). Sensors (10, 12 and/or 14) are used to measure values relating to the gas. The sensed parameters are concurrently monitored and continuously determine the amount of gas flowing to and from the diaphragm of the membrane pump (18) utilized to move liquid within a liquid pathway. The measurements may then be used to calculate the instantaneous flow rate of the liquid.

摘要： Sample tube racks having retention bars to retain sample tubes in the racks during processing of the contents of the sample tubes are described. An example rack for holding sample tubes includes a sample tube carrier having an elongated body and walls defining apertures. Each of the apertures is configured to receive a respective one of the sample tubes. The walls define elongated openings, each of which corresponds to a respective one of the sample tubes and extends along at least a portion of a length of the respective sample tube, and the elongated openings enable viewing of information on the outer surfaces of the sample tubes. The example rack also includes an elongated retention bar to be pivotally coupled to one end of the sample tube carrier. The retention bar has openings, each of which is positioned over a respective one of the apertures, and the openings are dimensioned to prevent removal of the sample tubes from the sample tube carrier through the retention bar.
