    • A removably supporting mechanism is provided for a workpiece holding device that can hold and release a workpiece. The workpiece holding device is removably supported on a crossbar extending substantially orthogonal to a workpiece conveying direction of a press machine. The removably supporting mechanism has a guide pin and a guide pin hole. The guide pin is fittable into and engageable with the guide pin hole. One of the guide pin and the guide pin hole is disposed on the workpiece holding device side, whereas another of the guide pin and the guide pin hole is disposed on the crossbar side. The guide pin and the guide pin hole can perform alignment of the workpiece holding device and the crossbar in a direction substantially orthogonal to an inserting direction of the guide pin.

    • Provided is a workpiece transfer apparatus for a press machine including: a workpiece retaining device which is supported by a crossbar extending to be approximately orthogonal to a workpiece transfer direction, and is capable of retaining and releasing a workpiece; a guiding device which supports and guides the workpiece retaining device so that the workpiece retaining device is slidable along a longitudinal direction of the crossbar; a driving device which drives the workpiece retaining device supported and guided by the guiding device so that the workpiece retaining device is moved along the longitudinal direction of the crossbar; and a brake device which acts in a path different from a path of the driving device, the brake device being capable of fixing and releasing a position of the workpiece retaining device with respect to the longitudinal direction of the crossbar.

    • An upper surface of a head part of a valve lifter has a predetermined turn back portion at which, with a variable valve control device kept controlled to induce a maximum lift of an engine valve, a swing stroke of a rounded cam surface of a swing cam relative to the upper surface of the head part changes a traveling direction from a radially outward direction for opening the engine valve to a radially inward direction for closing the engine valve. An inlet end part of an oil hole formed in the head part is placed at a radially inside position of the upper surface other than a position where side edges of the rounded cam surface of the swing cam are in contact with the inlet end part of the oil hole when the rounded cam surface is placed in the vicinity of the turn back portion.

    • A variable valve system varies an operation condition of an engine valve by controlling an angular position of a control shaft in accordance with an operation condition of the engine. The system has an actuating mechanism for actuating the control shaft. The actuating mechanism comprises a threaded shaft that is rotated about its axis in accordance with the operation condition of the engine; a nut member operatively engaged with the threaded shaft, so that upon rotation of the threaded shaft the nut member runs axially along the threaded shaft; a link mechanism provided between the control shaft and the nut member, so that the axial movement of the nut member along the threaded shaft induces a rotational motion of the control shaft; and a biasing mechanism that biases the nut member relative to the threaded shaft at least at a predetermined range of the operation condition of the engine valve.
