    • A fluid ejecting apparatus includes: a fluid ejecting unit that ejects a colored fluid and a colorless fluid toward a fluid ejection target medium; an irradiating unit that irradiates ultraviolet rays onto a fluid that lies on or over the fluid ejection target medium so as to cure the fluid; and a controlling unit that controls the fluid ejecting operation of the fluid ejecting unit and the ultraviolet ray irradiating operation of the irradiating unit. The controlling unit performs control so that the colorless fluid is ejected on an image that is made of the colored fluid that landed on the fluid ejection target medium. After the start of the agglomeration of the colorless fluid that landed on the image, the controlling unit performs control so that ultraviolet rays are irradiated onto the colorless fluid.

    • An image forming apparatus which is able to form either single or double sided copies on a recording medium while achieving an excellent image quality in either a matted or glossy finish. The image forming apparatus includes a fixing portion in which a first roller includes a first temperature and hardness for forming a matted image, whereas a second roller includes a higher temperature and hardness for forming a glossy image. Alternatively, or in addition, to different hardness and temperatures, the recording medium can be conveyed at a first speed to form a matted image, and a slower speed to form a glossy image. The image forming apparatus further includes an inverse and re-fixing sub-mode, which utilizes an inverting and returning passage, for reducing the curl in a recording medium, and thus also reducing the instances in which clogging takes place. The inverting and returning passage has a length sufficient to accommodate a plurality of recording mediums. Moreover, the image forming apparatus is provided with first and second discharge passages so that if one passage is clogged, the other can be used to discharge recording mediums. A switching means selects, based on detection sensors, through which discharge passage a recording medium is fed. The operations of the image forming apparatus are coordinated by a control unit.

    • An image formation apparatus is provided having a continuous form photosensitive member positioned to move along a pre-defined transfer path. An image is exposed on to a portion of the photosensitive member along the transfer path. A heat developer heats the exposed image portion and intercepts the heat to an unexposed portion of the photosensitive member. The heat developer has a cylindrical housing having a heated portion arranged along a longitudinal axis of the cylindrical housing and a heating element in surface contact with and for heating exposed portions of the photosensitive member. The cylindrical housing also has an unheated portion arranged along the longitudinal axis of the cylindrical housing and separated from the heated portion by a thermally insulative material. A thermal shield is selectively movable along the transfer path in synchronism with and in the direction of transfer of the photosensitive member between a heat shielding position and a non-heat shielding position for protecting and preserving unexposed portions of the photosensitive member. The thermal shield has a curved heat shield position adjacent to the heating element and movable concentrically about the longitudinal axis between the heat shielding position between the heating element and photosensitive member and the non-heat shield position.
