摘要： There are provided a method of forming an image on a card and an apparatus therefor, which are capable of properly carrying out printing of an image on a card and protection of the printed image in a simplified manner without changing the size of the card. A card is used which has an ink-fixing layer laminated on a surface of a substrate layer and an ink image-receiving layer peelably laminated on a surface of the ink-fixing layer. An image is printed on the card, while feeding the card, by an ink jet printing method using a sublimable dye ink. The card printed with the image is conveyed to a heating source, and subjected to heat treatment by the heating source to cause diffusion of the sublimable dye ink held in the ink image-receiving layer in the ink-fixing layer, and color development to form an image. The ink image-receiving layer is peeled off the card after the heat treatment.

摘要： There is provided a printing apparatus which is capable of increasing the printing speed by employing a multi-head structure while maintaining or enhancing print quality. The printing apparatus prints on a print medium by using N print heads, where N is an integer equal to or larger than 2, assuming that two axes orthogonal to each other on a two-dimensional rectangular coordinate system are set to an X axis and a Y axis, each of the print heads being capable of printing M dots in a direction along the Y axis simultaneously, where M is an integer equal to or larger than 3, and at the same capable of printing M dot lines each extending in a direction along the X axis, by relative scan on the print medium in the direction along the X axis, the M dot lines being arranged side by side in the direction along the Y axis. At least two print heads of the N print heads are arranged in a manner such that selected ones of the M dot lines that can be printed by one of the at least two print heads overlap selected ones of the M dot lines that can be printed by another of the at least two print heads.

摘要： There are provided a card printing method and a card printing apparatus which are capable of preventing or minimizing the possibility of adhesion of ink to end faces of a card. The card printing apparatus prints on a card having a predetermined thickness by an ink jet printing method. A card feed mechanism feeds the card C. A print head carries out printing on the card being advanced, while performing reciprocating motions. A controller controls the card feed mechanism and the print head. The controller causes the print head to carry out beyond-edge printing in which ink droplets are ejected beyond opposite edges of the card, immediately before termination of ejection of the droplets when the print head is moved in one direction, and immediately before termination of ejection of the droplets when the print head is moved in another direction opposite to the one direction, if the beyond-edge printing is required.
