    • Embodiments include methods for allocating physical-layer (PHY) resources of a communication system for a control channel, including determining a set of resource allocation patterns, selecting at least one resource allocation pattern from the determined set, encoding a plurality of indices identifying each of the selected resource allocation patterns, wherein the plurality of indices comprises a first index identifying a selected resource group allocation and a second index identifying a selected resource block allocation, and sending a message comprising the plurality of indices for the selected resource allocation patterns. Other embodiments include methods for determining resource allocation patterns used to allocate PHY resources for a control channel, and methods for receiving an allocation of PHY resources for a control channel. Other embodiments include various apparatus and computer-readable media embodying one or more of the methods.

    • There is a predefined mapping of antenna ports to radio resources (REs/REGs/CCEs). An antenna port configuration for a user equipment (UE) is selected from among multiple predefined configurations each having two antenna ports. Each of the radio resources which map from at least one antenna port of the selected configuration are identified according to the predefined mapping to define a search space consisting of the identified radio resources in each physical resource block pair set that is assigned to the UE. The network transmits a control channel to the UE within the defined search space using the antenna ports of the selected configuration. The UE confines its blind search for the control channel to the defined search space and to the antenna ports of the selected configuration. The examples have the control channel as ePDCCH and show that both distributed and localized ePDCCH can be multiplexed even to the same PRB pair set.

    • A double structured codebook is described that has a wideband codebook portion C( W 1 ) and a frequency-selective codebook portion C( W 2 ). Portion C(W2) is characterised in that for at least one rank index RI, each codeword of C( W 2 ) is uniquely distinguished over all other codewords of C( W 2 ) by at least two beam selection vectors per layer. A device (UE, eNB, etc) utilises the at least two different beam selection 10 vectors per layer to uniquely select a codeword W 2 from C( W 2 ) (404); and constructs a precoder W from the selected codeword W 2 and from another codeword W 1 selected from the wideband codebook portion C( W 1 ) for signalling channel conditions (406). An additional co-phasing term for ensuring orthogonality can be utilised with the beam selection vectors per layer to uniquely select the codeword from C( W 2 ), and the two different beam selection vectors per layer correspond to different polarizations (410).
