摘要： The present invention relates to novel alternative forms of human acetylcholinesterase (AChE) and nucleotide sequences encoding the same. The genes encoding the novel forms of human AChE have been identified in various malignant tumor cells. In a further aspect, the invention relates to a transgenic animal assay system for evaluating efficacy of drugs against cholinergic proteins, prior to or in the course of therapeutic treatment. Transgenic animals, preferably developing tadpole of Xenopus or mice which express human AChE, are used. The transgenic animal assay system is also useful for evaluating the toxicity of substances which potentially block human AChE (e.g. organophosphorous compounds).

摘要： A non-food anti-microbial-adhesion and aggregation composition comprising a suitable carrier and an effective amount of an adhesion inhibitory fraction isolated from juice from berries of the Vaccinium) plant genus (Fig. 1). In an embodiment the anti-aggregation and adhesion fraction is isolated from cranberry juice. It is characterized as being polymeric and having a molecular weight ≥14,000; an elemental analysis of carbon 43-51 %, hydrogen 4-5 %, no nitrogen, no sulfur and no chlorine; a nuclear magnetic resonance (NMR) line spectrum as set forth in Figures 2A and 2B; and an ultraviolet spectrum with an absorption peak at 280 nm in neutral or acidic pH solution which is absent in alkali solutions. This fraction exhibits adhesion inhibitory activity against P fimbriated bacteria, oral bacteria and Helicobacter pylori.

摘要： A human cataractous lens nuclei methanolic extract consists essentially of substances having a molecular weight lower than 3,000 daltons. The substances inhibit ATP hydrolysis by Na+, K+-ATPase and have affinity to the ouabain binding site thereof. The substances cross react with an antibody directed against digoxin. Pharmaceutical preparations including the substances, and methods of using the substances are also disclosed.
