    • A system and a method for notifying call arrival of a portable terminal by using local area sound communication are provided to implement a call arrival notifying function using a call arrival notifying device only through download of software in all portable terminals, which are currently used, without replacing the portable terminal or adding a special transmitter. A portable terminal includes a speaker for transmitting sound waves; a controller for instructing the speaker to transmit a sound wave signal of a predetermined frequency when a call is received. A reception notifying device comprises a microphone, a processor(601) and a driver(607). The microphone receives peripheral sound waves. The processor determines whether the received sound wave is a sound wave signal transmitted from the speaker of the portable terminal by analyzing the sound wave received in the microphone, and transmits a command to the driver if it is determined that the signal is a call arrival notifying signal transmitted from the speaker. The driver is driven according to the command of the processor.
