    • A voltage detecting insulator and a voltage detector using the insulator, wherein: a ceramic insulator, which is unitarily integrated with a light transmission member penetrating therethrough in the axial direction, is provided with a voltage impression part which holds an electric wire; the voltage impression part is provided with two voltage detection units operating individually or in combination; one voltage detection unit consists of a light sensor, which is connected to a current transformer connected to the electric wire and is also connected to an end of the light transmission member, and which has an electrooptic element connected to the current transformer, and of a resistor connected to said current transformer in parallel with said light sensor; the other voltage detection unit consists of a light sensor that is jointed and fixed to a current collecting electrode opposed to said electric wire and to an end of said light transmission member, and has an electrooptic element connected to the current collecting electrode; and at the other end of said light transmission member is provided a light connector that is jointed and fixed to the light transmission member and that connects an optical fiber cable to the bottom of a flange metal fitting that is mounted on the insulator body. In this detector, the optical power supplied through an optical transmission path depending upon the voltage and current of the electric path is readily modulated and transmitted through a voltage detection unit, and is converted into an electric signal through a light receiving unit. Therefore, adverse effects are removed that may be caused by the induction in paths for detecting and transmitting data, insulation is not deteriorated, and safety as well as measuring precision are maintained, enabling the detector to be widely applicable to transmission and distribution lines.
