摘要： An electric soldering iron tip includes a U-shaped metallic heating member formed from an elongated strip of Kovar or other low expansion iron-nickel alloys. The base portion of the U-shaped heating member has an elongated strip of ceramic material, such as beryllium oxide, attached to one side thereof for receiving heat from the heating member and forming a soldering surface for engaging the work to be soldered in order to apply heat thereto for soldering purposes. A second ceramic strip, formed of alumina, is connected to the opposite side of the base portion of the heating member from the first ceramic strip for preventing deformation of the tip due to differences in the coefficients of expansion of the first ceramic strip and the heating member to which it is attached. The ceramic strips are brazed to the heating member to provide a strong bond having excellent thermal conductivity characteristics. The arm sections of the U-shaped heating member are adapted to be connected to a source of electrical energy to effect flow of heating current through the member.

摘要： Articles, such as connecting pieces for pipe lines, which can be welded satisfactorily and having a wall thickness of one inch or less are manufactured from malleable cast iron produced by imparting a ferritic or pearlitic structure free from temper carbon to castings containing 2,2-3,2 per cent of carbon, less than 0,6 of silicon, 0,15-1,2 of manganese and less than 0,1 of sulphur by subjecting them to an oxidizing annealing treatment at below 950 DEG C., in which no free graphite is formed, and the carbon is directly removed from the cementite. The amounts of the silicon and sulphur are preferably maintained in certain specific ratios to one another. The raw materials are melted in a reducing furnace in an electric, reverberatory or drum furnace and during or subsequent to the melting, deoxidized by aluminium, manganese, &c.

摘要： In the manufacture of articles from cast iron as described in the parent Specification, the castings contain 2,2-3,2 per cent of carbon, less than 0,15 of sulphur, less than 0,8 of silicon and an amount of manganese which is at least twice the silicon content but not greater than 2 per cent. The manganese content is preferably equal to at least the sum of twice the silicon content and three times the sulphur content.
