    • A method of manufacturing a color filter for a reflective liquid crystal display is disclosed. The method comprises the following steps: 1) coating a layer of positive photoresist on a reflective layer or reflective substrate, and exposing the photoresist layer to a light via a mask having a fine pixel pattern so as to form at least three exposed regions of different exposed energy in the photoresist layer, 2) Removing one of the existing exposed regions having a largest exposed dose by the use of an alkaline developer solution so as to expose the surface of the electrically conductive reflective substrate corresponding to the removed region; and electrodepositing a color paint on the exposed surface of the reflective substrate to form a color filter layer of one selected color, 3) repeating step 2) to remove the other exposed regions in the photoresist layer and proceeding with an electrodeposition process with another color paint until a color filter layer of all desired colors is completed. Thus, a color filter for a reflective crystal display according to the present method could obtain a uniform thickness, a better flatness, and a pattern of high fineness and have a large degree of freedom in pattern arrangement and the possibility of increased size.

The spacers position and sizes could be easily determined by spacer reticle and high quality display performances could be achieved.

    • The invention relates to a method for manufacturing color filters utilizing a color electrodeposition coating which contains an anionic electrodeposition resin having a low acid value. Said method comprises coating a layer of positive photoresist onto a transparent electrically conductive substrate, exposing the substrate under a photomask or photomasks to form regions of different initial levels of exposure energy, exposing the entire surface of the substrate through an energy-incrementing way to, progressively, allow all regions of the substrate to achieve an energy sufficient to completely expose the photoresist on each corresponding region, developing stepwise each region with a same developer solution to cause the electrically conductive substrate of the corresponding region uncovered, electrodepositing said region with a color electrodeposition coating containing an anionic electrodeposition resin having a low acid value to finish the pixel arrangements of the desired colors and completely exposing the substrate. The low acid value anionic electrodeposition resin utilized in the invention has an acid value of 1 to 70 mg KOH/g. The method of the invention shows the advantages of having a high degree of freedom in pattern figures and a wide process window. Moreover, the manufacture color filters of large surface and the perfect yield rate of products are possible.

    • Color layers of a color filter obtained by exposing a transparent substrate to light from the back side followed by development may have a defect of layer unflatness produced due to unevenness caused by contamination with foreign matters. The defect can be repaired by eliminating the defective part of the color layers to produce a blank there, optionally filling the blank with a negative photosensitive composition containing a black colorant and returning the thus modified color filter to an appropriate step in the production line. The color filter repaired is used to fablicate multi-color display devices which are by no means inferior in display qualities to those fablicated using a color filter having no defect originally.
