摘要： A pseudo three dimensional image is generated, based on an aspect image and a mapping image generated from an original three dimensional image, using a volume rendering method. A mapping image that represents the functions of a subject is generated using first voxel data that constitute an original three dimensional medical image of the subject. An aspect image is generated using second voxel data that constitute an original three dimensional medical image of the subject. A position matching means causes positions within a heart represented by the mapping image to correspond to positions within a heart represented by the aspect image. An image generating means executes volume rendering based on degrees of opacity within the mapping image, to generate the pseudo three dimensional image.

An image processing apparatus 1 obtains myocardial thicknesses at various positions of a heart within a plurality of three dimensional images V1 through VK, obtained by imaging a heart at a plurality of temporal phases within a single cardiac cycle, at each of the temporal phases. The image processing apparatus 1 obtains representative values that represent the systolic phase of the myocardia at each position, based on the obtained myocardial thicknesses at each temporal phase, and outputs the obtained representative values.

Then, the functional image and the morphological image are displayed in a superimposing manner such that at least one position of the heart in the functional image corresponds to at least one position of the heart in the morphological image.

Display output is controlled such that the cardiac function bulls eye image, the coronary artery bulls eye image, and data representing the distances are displayed simultaneously on the screen of a display device.
