摘要： Systems and methods for OFDM tone allocation are provided. In one embodiment, an end-user communication device comprises: a first remote unit for communicating with a host unit using orthogonal frequency division multiplexing (OFDM), the host unit communicatively coupled to a plurality of remote units in a multipoint-to-point configuration, wherein OFDM waveform from distinct remote units of the plurality of remote units combine to a unified OFDM waveform at the host unit. The first remote unit is configured to transmit up to a plurality of tones, the up to a plurality of tones modulated with upstream information using OFDM. The first remote unit is configured to determine when bandwidth is needed for upstream transmission to the host unit. The first remote unit is configured to transmit a request for bandwidth to the host unit on a first tone of the plurality of tones, wherein access to the first tone is contention-based.

In one embodiment, a multi-carrier modem comprises: a receiver configured to receive a waveform comprising a plurality of spectrally overlapping carrier signals from at least two of a plurality of remote units, wherein the plurality of spectrally overlapping carrier signals are modulated using an inverse Fourier transform algorithm; a transmitter; a processor coupled to the transmitter, wherein the processor outputs data for transmission to the transmitter, wherein the processor applies an inverse Fourier transform algorithm to the data provided to the transmitter; and a controller programmed to analyze a training signal received from a first remote unit and adjust receiver equalizer parameters based on the training signal.

摘要： An analog to digital conversion circuit is provided. The analog to digital (A/D) conversion circuit includes an input adapted to receive an analog signal. The A/D conversion circuit further includes a variable attenuator that is coupled to the input and that has a feedback control input. The A/D conversion circuit further includes a converter that is responsive to the variable attenuator and that converts analog input signals to digital output signals. A feedback loop is also provided. The feedback loop is responsive to an overflow indicator of the converter. The feedback loop is adapted to produce a feedback signal based on the overflow indicator and is adapted to provide the feedback signal to the feedback control input of the variable attenuator so as to maintain the peak level of the input to the converter substantially near an acceptable peak input level for the converter.

摘要： A video and telephony signal distribution network is provided. The network includes a head end for transmitting to a plurality of remote units. The network further includes at least one optical/electrical converter unit that transmits to the remote units over at least two coaxial cables coupled to a common optical/electrical converter unit. Each remote unit transmits upstream electrical data signals over its associated coaxial cable to the optical/electrical converter unit using a common bandwidth. The optical/electrical converter unit converts and frequency shifts the upstream electrical data signals from at least one remote unit to form an optical upstream data signal for transmittal to the head end such that the frequency spectrum used for the upstream communications is simultaneously used on each of the coaxial cables of to optical/electrical converter unit.

摘要： Systems for multiple use subchannels are provided. In one embodiment, a bidirectional communication system comprises: a first remote unit for communicating with a host using OFDM, the host communicatively coupled to a plurality of remote units in a multipoint-to-point configuration. The first remote unit is configured to transmit up to a plurality of tones, the up to a plurality of tones modulated with upstream information using OFDM, the first remote unit including a modulator for modulating the up to a plurality of tones using OFDM. The modulator is configured to adjust a carrier frequency and timing of the plurality of tones such that when any tones are transmitted from the first remote unit and at least one other remote unit, the orthogonality of the tones when received at the host unit is improved. Both control data and payload data are transmitted on a first tone of the plurality of tones.

摘要： A detector circuit for radio-frequency signals is formed of a pair of matched diodes disposed on a common substrate which is heated by a temperature responsive feedback circuit to stabilize the temperature of the substrate and the diodes. A capacitor is connected to one or both of the diodes to form a detector of the detector circuit. A bias circuit provides equal bias currents to the two diodes, and an amplifier is connected to the two diodes to extract voltages associated with the bias currents, and to subtract these voltages in a differential manner so as to exclude the effect of bias voltage from an output signal of the amplifier. The amplifier is also coupled to an output terminal of the detector to isolate the detector from subsequent stages of signal processing, as well as to amplify detected signals. The diodes are each, preferably, Schottky diodes for improved dynamic range of signal detection.
