Safety-valves; tyre-inflating valves.-An adjustable pressure gauge for pneumatic tyres &c. is adapted for attachment to the stem of the tyre valve and indicates whether the pressure obtaining within the tyre is outside the prescribed limits by actuating a single valve and permitting an escape of air ; in the case of an excess of pressure, the escape continues until the prescribed maximum pressure is reached. The lower extremity of the device 6, Fig. 1, is screwed to the upper portion 4 of the tyre valve 1 and is protected by the sleeve 2 of the valve. A member 8, provided with an aperture communicating both with the chamber above and with a passage 29 leading to an attached cylinder 28, is adapted to engage the upper part of the stem of the tyre valve 3 and unseat the valve. When the valve is displaced, the pressure beneath an elastic diaphragm 10 moves the plunger 15 first against a spring 17, and then against an additional spring 27. Should the pressure be in excess of the maximum allowed, a projection 36 on the plunger rocks a bent lever 39, which depresses a slide 41 and opens a valve 30, thereby allowing air from the tyre to escape from the opening 32, in an upper cylinder 31, by way of the passage 29 and cylinder 28. Should a deficiency of pressure obtain within the tyre, the projection 36 engages directly the horizontal arm of the slide 41 and open the valve 30 as before. The springs 17, 27 can be adjusted by means of the threaded members 18, 25; the spring 27 may, by adjustment of the member 25, be arranged so as to prevent an escape of air from the tyre in the case of an excess of pressure. The form of the device shown in Fig. 1 is similar to that described above; in this case, however, the valve 34 allowing the escape of air from the tyre is mounted within a recess in the body of the device 11 , air passing thence through a passage (not shown) to a third recess in the device 11 and thence into the air.

Deflation of tyres, means for indicating.-A hissing sound is automatically given when the pressure in a pneumatic tyre rises above or falls below a predetermined range of pressure. A casing bored at 2, 3, 4 can be screwed on to the stem 8 of a tyre-valve, and is provided with a fixed pin 31 which engages the nipple 30 of the tyre-valve and puts the tyre into pneumatic connexion with the valved bores 2, 3, Figs. 2 and 5, but not with 4, Fig. 3. The bore 2 contains a safety-valve, which on the pressure becoming excessive permits air to pass down it and through the passage 32 into an annular groove 35 in the plug 34 screwed into the bore 4. The air then issues by a cut-away portion 36 and hole 33 into the atmosphere, giving a hissing signal. The desired maximum pressure can be regulated by the set-screw 20. The bore 3 contains a doubleheaded valve-rod 26, the head 25 of which is normally pressed upon the inwardly facing seat 23. When the pressure falls to a limit determined by the thumb-screw 28, the valve opens and gives a hissing signal as described above, total deflation being prevented by the action of the spring 27 which subsequently presses the outer head upon the outwardly-facing valve seat 24. The device is protected by a detachable cap 37.

    • A remote deposit capture system for distributed processing of check presentation can sense, or be instructed to differentiate, between deposit document types, including checks, cash withdrawals, and casino markets. Thereby, automated recognition and correction features can be selectively applied to an imaged deposit document. Thereby deposit documents that tend to use identical transaction codes, such as the same routing/transit numbers in magnetic ink character recognition (MICR) code line data, can be effectively processed without a high failure rate due to duplicate detection. Yet the advantages of duplicate detection are still leveraged against other deposit types. Alternatively or in addition, duplicate detection can be selected to not depend upon uniqueness of MICR code line data.

    • A PVC-pipe-end smooth-surfacer has a reamer cylinder (1) sized and shaped to fit slidably on an outside periphery of an external periphery of a PVC pipe (2) proximate a pipe end (12) to be cut with a cutting wheel (5) rotatable in a cylinder-base bearing (3) while a cutter shaft (4) on the cutter wheel is being rotated with a cutting element (15, 16) of the cutting wheel in cutting contact with the pipe end. A shaft keeper (14) on the cutter shaft assures limited travel of the cutter shaft through the cylinder-base bearing. An insertion spring (10) on the cutter shaft positions the cutting wheel in predetermined pressure against the pipe end. A reamer-cylinder base can have chip-removal apertures (13) for discharge of pipe-end cuttings. The reamer cylinder can have one or more internal graspers (23, 24) which can be used to center and to fix the reamer cylinder non-rotationally but removably on the external periphery of the PVC pipe. Low-friction bearings can be provided for rotation of the cutter shaft in the cylinder-base bearing. A drive coupling (6) on the cutter shaft can be structured for rotation by hand or motorized tooling. The PVC-pipe-end smooth-surfacer can be structured in sizes to cut PVC pipe ranging from about three-fourths-to-twelve-inches in diameter. A smooth-surfacing method is described.

    • A syringe holding and ejecting assembly which has an open ended cylindrical syringe holder with a syringe holder cap rotatable mounted on the rear end of the syringe holder and an elongated plunger slidable along the axis of the holder and its cap. The syringe holder has a spring biased cylindrical shield slidably mounted on the outside of the syringe holder. The elongated syringe filled with liquid medicant has a hypodermic needle axially mounted on its front end and a medicant-sealing piston at its rear end operated by the plunger. The syringe is designed and sized to fit into the open end of the holder and by rotation of the cap, locked into the syringe holder. Means activated by the forward movement of the plunger in administering the injection of the needle and then the medicant into a patient's body causes the shield to slide forward and lock into a position surrounding the withdrawn needle. The entire assembly can now to taken to and held over a waste disposal box. By rotation of the cap to unlock the syringe from the holder, which action will permit the used syringe from coming in contact with the potentially hazardous, recently withdrawn needle.
