摘要： The present invention pertains to carpet and method of making it. In one aspect, the carpet includes (a) a primary backing which has a face and a back surface, (b) a plurality of fibers attached to the primary backing and extending from the face of the primary backing and exposed at the back surface of the primary backing, (c) an adhesive backing, (d) an optional secondary backing adjacent to the adhesive backing, and (e) at least one homogeneously branched linear ethylene polymer. The method includes extrusion coating at least one homogeneously branched linear ethylene polymer onto the back surface of a primary backing to provide an adhesive backing. The method can include additional steps or procedures, either separately or in various combinations. Additional steps and procedures include preheating the primary backing prior the extrusion step, multilayer adhesive backings, washing or scouring the primary backing prior the extrusion step, and utilizing adhesive polymeric additives, high heat content fillers, blowing agents and/or implosion agents. The constructions and methods described herein are particularly suited for making carpet tile.

摘要： Blends of high molecular weight linear polyethylene and low molecular weight linear polyethylene provide improved staple fiber-forming capabilities over that found with either polymer taken alone. Preferably at least one of the polymers used in the blend is a linear low density polyethylene, LLDPE, which is a linear polyethylene comprising ethylene copolymerized with an amount of a higher alpha-olefin which causes the density of the copolymer to be less than that of a homopolymer made using the same process and catalyst. The higher alpha-olefin can be at least one in the C.sub.3 -C.sub.12 range, preferably in the C.sub.3 -C.sub.8 range.

摘要： An improved method of melt spinning linear polyethylene into fiber, especially fine denier fiber, with minimal fiber breakage is disclosed. The method includes imparting high shear into the polyethylene just prior to extrusion through the spinneret die and also results in lower die swell. The high shear can be imparted by use of sintered metal filter media, multiple stacks of fine mesh screens or similar shear inducing media. The method is especially effective when the linear polyethylene contains a relatively high molecular weight species, as determined using gel permeation chromatography with a low angle laser light scattering detector.

摘要： Polymer blends of at least one ethylene interpolymer product and at least one linear polyethylene are disclosed. The blends have a shear rate at the point of onset of melt fracture at least about 2 percent higher than that obtained for the linear polyethylene alone. The polymer blends are particularly useful for forming films and tapes wherein the melt fracture of the polymer blend is substantially reduced or eliminated, thereby improving extrudability and fabricated article appearance.

The process generally includes forming of polyolefin blends with acrylic monomer system comprising: providing a polyolefin comprising a first portion and a second portion; providing a concentrated monomer system comprising an acrylic monomers and the first portion of the polyolefin, wherein the concentrated monomer system comprises the acrylic monomers at a first concentration and a first portion of the polyolefin; and blending the concentrated monomer system with the a second portion of the polyolefin to form a modified polyolefin, wherein the modified polyolefin comprises a second concentration of acrylic monomers that is less than the first concentration. Described blends can be used as masterbatch concentrates.
